Forthcoming: Dan Kelly

Related: Dan Kelly.

What: Dan Kelly’s Dream by Dan Kelly.
When: July 16 through Shock Records.
Key notes: Follow-up to 2006’s Drowning In The Fountain of Youth, which was nominated for a J Award. Formerly known as The Decomissioner. Features new band mates Dave Williams (Augie March) and Indra Adams and Dallas Packard (Ground Components). A self-described “opus in six parts”, recorded in Daylesford, Victoria, with Burke Reid (Gerling, The Drones); re-recorded in a mud brick studio in Melbourne’s inner-north; and mixed in London with Aaron Cupples (The Drones, Alpha Males). Dan Kelly: “The planet is decaying, and I’ve been personally decaying along with it and trying to figure out my way through writing all these songs. Dan Kelly’s Dream is the end of a trilogy, of me not knowing what I’m doing, through to now.”
First impressions: Kelly's avalanche of referential lyrics tumble pleasantly along to the breezy grooves of his new backing band. There's an almost 10-minute detour in ‘Poisoned Estuary Jam', but otherwise this is a wordy ramble of a pop record that piles on milky embellishment and finds a singalong chorus in a young Bindi Irwin. At least on par with his masterful second record, this one might be even better. – Doug Wallen

Haven't heard the music.
What do you like about them?
You're a genius.
Poor Dan Kelly. That's like covering Bob Dylan's face with the yeti from Harry and the Hendersons
I tried to make that my profile picture, but it's cutting off my head...
