Splendour News: Middle East Out, Seltmann In

Sally Seltmann has been added to the line-up of the now sold-out Splendour In The Grass festival – but it’s come at the expense of Townsville’s finest The Middle East.

The band has decided to make the recording of their debut album a top priority, and said they were “disappointed” to pull out of the festival which is scheduled to take place at Woodfordia in Queensland’s Sunshine Coast at the end of the month.

The news could not come at a better time for Seltmann, who commences a national tour in support of her third album Heart That’s Pounding at Brisbane’s The Zoo this Friday (July 9). She will be touring with a backing band that includes Jessica Venables (aka Jessica Says), Mark Monnone (The Lucksmiths), Tim Harvey (Hot Little Hands) and her husband Darren Seltmann (The Avalanches). Full dates here.

In other Splendour news, Sydney electro outfit Art vs Science will replace UK pop act The Ting Tings, who have rescheduled their upcoming Australian tour.

The Middle East really do need to make recording their album a priority. Blood & The Darkest Side are brilliant but can only go so far.

Fair enough that they'd rather concentrate on recording, but their Splendour performance fee would likely have helped them live a little more comfortably while they finalise the album.. it seems a weird choice, or at least, a strange excuse.

Art vs Science are so atrociously buffoonish.

I've only seen Middle East once and I found them really dull.

Not a great loss. Art vs Science = bogan-bait.

Ting Tings rock. I just wanted to say that. In all sincerity.
