Cut Copy Turn Down Gaga, Finish New LP

Melbourne dance crossover act Cut Copy recently turned down the chance to work with Lady Gaga. In a brief interview with Pitchfork, Cut Copy’s Dan Whitford said the band were simultaneously repulsed but also tantalised by the idea of touring with the world’s reigning pop oddity.
“We're more focused on our own music and our own fan base,” explained Whitford. “But yeah, if I were in a ‘Choose Your Own Adventure’ novel it would've been interesting to go on tour with Lady Gaga and see how that affected my career and life. I don't think we ever seriously thought we'd do it, though.”
The band have also completed work on their third album, the follow-up to 2008’s Australian Music Prize-nominated In Ghost Colours. The record is currently being mixed by Ben Allen, who’s worked with the likes of Animal Collective and Gnarls Barkley. It’s expected to be out in January. Here’s a clip of the band working on the record in a makeshift warehouse studio on the outskirts of Melbourne:

FOOLS!
Pitchfork Friday.
Friday 'fork.
tim is such a babe. does he had a girlfriend?
Oh My Gaga
I'd have done it!
yeah, why wouldn't you?
They had an opportunity to tour with Gaga for a year and they turned it down...
shakes head
Their fanbase and record sales would have quadrupled tenfold and it would have been an incredible experience... oh yeah i forgot, it's all about being indie and having cred.
hold the fucking phone. are we actually berating a band for not selling out?! c'mon guys, this isn't the M+N way!
You forget, jones, that Gaga is the token shit pop act that hipsters love to love.
Does this mean rising by a factor of 40?
Anyway. meritless techno-pop circa 2010 vs meritless derivative garbage pop? Whatevz.
Now they're going to be asked about Lady Gaga by every interviewer for the next 12 months
haha... look cut copy make fuckin' dance music, gaga too
do they think they're david bowie or something?
Good call boys.
(No hate from me here, I think Gaga is monumentally shithouse)
Should've temporarily changed their name to Slut Sloppy and done this for sure.
I prefer Lady Gaga.
Cut Copy suck shit.
meritless? pshht. in ghost colours is a great record. brought so much party/dancefloor heat. love love love.
they're a bit big to give a shit about this now, surely? the indie part, anyway. i'm ambivalent about gaga, but good on CC for prioritising their own thing over detouring to play tag-along to some touring monstrosity for a while.
I know jujitsu.
Also I hate Lady G.
She's a bit of a freak -- but at least she plays/writes her own shit
I kinda like her despite myself!

This kind of argument doesn't really apply to a band like Cut Copy, who have achieved a lot of international success, pretty much on their own terms. It's a kneejerk defensive reaction people roll out when artists prioritise other values over making a buck.
I don't understand why numbers of units sold or punters at gigs continues to be the ultimate measure of success. Most artists at a certain level of commercial success are quite happy to please their existing fans, rather than continually gain new ones. It doesn't mean they are pining for the days they were playing at the Dog Dick Arms to ten of their friends.
fuckin awesome pub tho', back in the day ...
fuck that's a full on touring schedule
Oh come on. Seriously...
Do you believe that Lady Gaga - or her record label - would lock in the support act for a whole YEAR in advance? Cut Copy haven't got a new record out. Cut Copy are managed by the guy who broke the Scissor Sicters, so perhaps there's a connection there.
But Interscope would want to break their pop acts with Lady Gaga support slots. She's their biggest pop star. Jimmy Iovine would slot his new Gagas into that support.
I would only believe this if Lady Gaga was going out with Dan. She's not.
good on em.
It's pretty telling that everyone suggesting what they would do if offered the Gaga support has never been offered the Gaga support.
PENALTY SHITOUT!
why are you so uppity about what the guys in a band, that you clearly don't think much of, do? i'd suggest your time is better spent focusing on your own opportunties than berating cut copy for, in your opinion, not taking theirs...
touchy!
i'm kinda over it now. yeah and cut copy blew it. ciao.
yes you are quite touchy. glad you're over it now :)
it's the internet... i was bored. i don't really care as much as it sounds.
Rah Rah Ah-Ah-Ah Roma Roma-Ma GaGa Ooh La-La!
for the record, i think anything cut copy have done after 'bright like' is boring.
Word.
I will fucking open for Lady Gaga if the price is right.
This is good news. Cut Copy have kept my respect. Can't wait to hear their new album. Lady Gaga please disappear, you are not real, you are but an empty pop culture fad. And take that weiner Justin Bieber with you.
Fuck yeah.
The drummer from Cut Copy's only got one arm...the drummer from Cut Copy's only got one arm!
better poster here, y0.
ARGH! ALL OF THEM ONLY HAVE ONE ARM AND A HEAD. SOMEONE CALL THE AMBULANS!
new cut copy song can be downloaded from their website.
i don't know what to make of it yet. it's got a beach boys vibe to it.
kinda like they're trying to out nu-psych tame impala. i prefer this.
It's an interesting combination of floaty and stompy.
