This kind of argument doesn't really apply to a band like Cut Copy, who have achieved a lot of international success, pretty much on their own terms. It's a kneejerk defensive reaction people roll out when artists prioritise other values over making a buck.

I don't understand why numbers of units sold or punters at gigs continues to be the ultimate measure of success. Most artists at a certain level of commercial success are quite happy to please their existing fans, rather than continually gain new ones. It doesn't mean they are pining for the days they were playing at the Dog Dick Arms to ten of their friends.

Do you believe that Lady Gaga - or her record label - would lock in the support act for a whole YEAR in advance? Cut Copy haven't got a new record out. Cut Copy are managed by the guy who broke the Scissor Sicters, so perhaps there's a connection there.

But Interscope would want to break their pop acts with Lady Gaga support slots. She's their biggest pop star. Jimmy Iovine would slot his new Gagas into that support.

I would only believe this if Lady Gaga was going out with Dan. She's not.
