In Brief: Holy Soul/The Stabs, Annandale, Scott Horscroft
  • Melbourne’s The Stabs and Sydney’s The Holy Soul (pictured) are teaming up for co-headline dates in their respective hometowns. On July 22, The Holy Soul will headline the Oxford Art Factory in Sydney, and the bill will be reversed for a show at the John Curtin Hotel in Melbourne on August 28. Last year The Stabs and The Holy Soul released their acclaimed second LPs Dead Wood and Damn You, Ra, respectively. The Holy Soul also have a new clip out. You can watch it here.

  • Enduring Sydney punk act Frenzal Rhomb will make a rare live appearance at The Annandale’s 10th birthday celebrations next month. The July 2 show will mark only the third time the band have performed at the iconic Sydney pub in their nearly 20-year career. Supports by Front End Loader and Old Music for Old People. Other performers at The Annandale’s 10th include The Vines and The John Steel Singers (June 23), Dallas Crane (June 24), Cloud Control (June 25), Regurgitator (July 3) and The Drones’ Gareth Liddiard (July 4). For tickets and more information click here.

  • Scott Horscroft (ie. the guy between Luke Steele’s ego and acetate on The Sleepy Jackson’s second album Personality…) will host two five-day workshops for budding producers in Sydney and Brisbane. Participants will be taken through a real-time studio session with Horscroft as he produces an original track with members of the now defunct The Scare. The Sydney session will run from June 21-25 at BJB Studios, with Brisbane taking place from July 2-9 at QUT Gasworks Studios. For more information click here.

I'm really excited about seeing the Stabs again!

Try to come early for the Whipped Cream Chargers, they're rad.

What time is early? I was gonna aim to be there around 8PM.

I haven't heard the Stabs live yet. I got a 7'' at ATP but when they were playing I'd been up all night to get cheap tickets to go so for most of the day I was Shhhhhhh.... I think I watched Conway Savage instead. I reckon I'll dig em' though. I like the 7''...

Chargers are on at 8:15, at latest word.

Oh good. I'll catch the later train then. I guess this means I AM coming unless it pisses down or there is some drama I will be there. I hate OAF but I WILL BE THERE!

So this was a great gig. I'm really glad I went. All 4 bands were tops and this may be the only time I've ever been to OAF and not hated it.Yep. Had me a real cool time...

They were the best at Cockatoo island atp, I strolled off the ferry to their guitar squall saturday. Sounded so decadent. On sunday Brendan told us about flipping off Malcolm Turnbull the previous day. I remember Turnbull walking past me on saturday too. It was weird. Some girl grabbed me shortly afterwards and explained in detail how he looked at a her friend dodgily. But I digress...

Awesome show last night all involved!

Big big thanks to Daniel and the maladies for use of their kit, very sporting and thoroughly decent! I also liked all the bands last night - a clean sweep of listening joy! Thanks Sydney friends! xxx
