Forthcoming: PVT

News posted Monday, June 7 2010 at 01:00 PM.
Related: Pivot, PVT.

What: Church With No Magic by PVT (formerly Pivot).

When: July 16 through Warp/Inertia.

Key notes: Third album for the experimental rock outfit based in Sydney/London. First as PVT following a legal claim from a band in the US regarding naming rights. Follow-up to 2008’s O Soundtrack My Heart, which cracked the top 20 of our annual Critics Poll. Recorded and mixed by Burke Reid (The Drones, Mess Hall, Jack Ladder) at BJB Studios in Sydney. Produced by PVT (Laurence and Richard Pike and Dave Miller). Features singles ‘Window’ and ‘The Quick Mile’.

First impressions: The name change isn’t the only thing different about Church With No Magic. While PVT’s dense, brooding sound is very much intact, the vocals of multi-instrumentalist Richard Pike play a much greater part, adding a new melodic layer to the band’s dense palette. New single ‘Window’ seems destined to be a dance crossover hit.
