Sydney’s Talons Call It A Day

After four years as “the most desirable and dazzling band in Sydney” (their words), Talons have decided to call it a day. The band confirmed the news via a statement sent to M+N today (May 27).

“This is what is known as an ‘amicable’ split and the love the three of us share is unshakable and permanent,” the statement read. “We would like to apologise to all of our eight fans and rejoice in the fact that we met the best people in the entire world as a result of being in this band. There are many people to thank who helped us tirelessly along the way, I'm sure these people know who they are, and I'm also sure we kiss you often. We also encourage you to buy our album as it's now a priceless collectors item, which is sure to be worth many million space tokens in the years to come.”

Said self-titled album was released last year through Sydney imprint Rice Is Nice (SPOD, Richard In Your Mind, Seja). It followed 2007 EP Ducats. Read an interview with the band here.

yeah, i don't understand why more people didn't love these guys. they pressed various of my buttons and that album is excellent. glad i caught them live once before they disappeared.

a confirmation doesn't make it any better.

funtimes  said about 1 year ago:

Bit of a shame, great friendly guys. Hope they go on to do good things, I know one has an electro thing going on.

filterfeed  said about 1 year ago:

i knew missing these guys earlier this year, or was it late last year, was a bad idea. hmmm.

Dexter Ramone  said about 1 year ago:

Great band, sad news. I haven't seen them for a few months now. Gotta be a record.

Oh shitballs

flukazoid  said about 1 year ago:

As I said elsewhere, it's a huge shame. At least they got an album out before they went under.

Side project from Christian coming soon, allegedly. I hear word of SPOD having a hand in it, but this is all second hand.

MattuS  said about 1 year ago:

Brilliant press statement! Good band, I haven't seen them in a fair while though, they were playing every week for a while it seemed.

sci_fi  said about 1 year ago:

SAD FACE.

ah matt i remember those days circa early 2008 - every weekend go out, watch Talons support some other band and blow them offstage...

attn: all my favourite sydney bands - STOP BREAKING UP. Ohana, Ghosts Of Television, Bare Arms, now Talons... jeez.

charlesincharge  said about 1 year ago:

i never got the appeal frankly. same old shit shouty singing made them sound like every other shit shouty sydney band. one of the members had a superhot girlfriend. another reason to hate.

sci_fi  said about 1 year ago:

clearly you never heard them do their cover of 'Sabotage' by the Beastie Boys. Christian's voice was made for that shit

liamsnice  said about 1 year ago:

Bare arms haven't broken up have they? That would suck indeed.

MattuS  said about 1 year ago:

Yep, a couple of months ago Liam.

funtimes  said about 1 year ago:

I have to admit charles that my interest in them waned the last year or two, maybe because the whole shouty singing thing got old pretty quick, but they had their moments, I guess Die Die Die are still keeping the flame alight.

__v  said about 1 year ago:

i liked the singing well enough, but it was the songs that really whacked my bonobo - construction-wise especially - also appreciated the transgressively good production values on the LP

TransientRandom  said about 1 year ago:

Great band, top folk, RIP Talons :(

sci_fi  said about 1 year ago:

Bare Arms have broken up and it does indeed suck.
