Deaf Wish To Split

Melbourne’s Deaf Wish will play one final show this month before calling it quits for good. The relocation of bass-player Nick Pratt to Perth has caused the band’s demise this time around. They’ll play one final show at Yah Yah’s in Melbourne on May 29.
"Our beloved bass-player Nick 'Soulboy' Pratt will be leaving our town in June to start a new life in Perth, Western Australia - or as my father likes to call it, 'a paradise for criminals,'" a statement from the band read. "We will miss him dearly. Of all his musical pursuits, Deaf Wish was clearly the loudest and undoubtedly the most suited to embellish his psychedelic realm."
Forming from the ashes of the now defunct Tri-State Lovers, Deaf Wish recorded a CD-R album that became an underground classic, before breaking up after the relocation of founding member Sarah Hardiman to the UK. The band eventually regrouped, releasing a single on VHS video cassette, performing at the Golden Plains and Flip Out music festivals, playing shows with the likes of Dinosaur Jr and releasing their second album, Reality & Visions, thought EXO/Idget Child last year.
In an interview with the band around the time of its release, M+N contributor Trevor Block summed up their ramshackle aesthetic best: “They are a band who can be shambolic without being stupid, and who can also be completely punk rock without any discernible political stance.” R.I.P.
Supports for the final show by The Stabs and Teen Archer. Entry:$12.

:( They were one of my fave melb bands
I'm going to miss talking to Nick around town more than Deaf Wish actually.
What a band. Sad I'll miss this one last chance.
Great band and good dudes who will no doubt unleash further musical grenades upon us. I'll miss Soulboy's dancing around the traps, though. Gutted I'll miss the last show.
Dang.
shame, shame, shame.
one of the top 3 bands i saw last year.
reality & visions is a masterpiece.
that sucks.
this is a bummer, good band
Who is this band?
NOOOOOO!
farewell Deaf Wish, its been an absolute experience watching you play around town, and thankyou for introducing me to melbourne Tjhungy
your records will spin happily in the next few months, like the have done before. i look forward to your last gig. see you then.
Pissed off I cant make it to this show
good luck y'all.
much love & respect.
i am also bummed i can't make it to the last one. damn its placement within a crucial part of the academic semester.
Actually I won't be able to go either. Damn.
I'll be there, having a blast. I'm gonna miss these cunce.
Made sure i got out of work for this one.
Still kicking myself about how late in the game i was with these guys.
fuck that ! im stuck in brisaben pending bond, 21 fit salute for the boys
I'll be there, probably losing my shit. Standard for a Deaf Wish gig, really.
Looking forward to this gig. Hope to see lots of my friends before heading to Perth.
this town gunna cry when ya gone
No it's not. There will be more tears over Powderfinger.
im there nick. yah-yah's not perth.
A true gentleman of the Melbourne rock (and soul) scene. You will definitely be missed by anyone with a heart in this town, Nick.
Timely bump for tonight!
Hope they've rehearsed ;)
Find out soon enough
Played for yonks, rocked the house, I reckon they'd rehearsed it up somewhat. Great gig.
is it just me or was it insanely loud last night? i mean i'll put up with loud shows but i had to buy earplugs.
The sound at Yah Yah's sucks. Blarey and harsh down the front. Muddy and pissweak everywhere else. Loki did a fine job to compensate though.
Brilliant show. Teen Archer have come a long way very quickly. Probably the best set I've seen them play. The Stabs were in excellent form and Deaf Wish must have played just about every song they knew. What a fitting send-off for Nick.
Scored a bootleg of this set and a set list today. Killer, but still sucks that they've quitted.
''insanely loud last night''...yeah my ears are still fucked 5 days later, was worth it though, awesome show.
