For the second year running, arts collective Love is My Velocity will set up a temporary recording studio in the heart of Perth.
Running as part of the 2010 WAMi Festival, “Takeaway Tunes” will see a host of local bands including Eleventh He Reaches London, The Ghost Hotel, Benedict Moleta, Schvendes and the infamous Taco Leg, record new songs and old favourites in a makeshift studio opposite the Elephant and Wheelbarrow on Lake Street, Northbridge. Beginning tomorrow (May 19), each session will run for an hour and is open to the public. The recorded tracks will be available for free download from the Love Is My Velocity website and broadcast on RTR FM the following day. Timetable below.
The recording space will also house a “pop-up shop”, with vinyl, CDs and other merchandise sourced from labels including Meupe, Hidden Shoal, Walking Horse Records, Badminton Bandit, Owls and Heartless Robot. A collection of limited edition pillowcases called “Sleeping With the Band” will also be on sale. Hand-printed and created by local artists in editions of 10, the series features James Baker (The Painkillers), Josh Fontaine (6s & 7s), Felicity Groom, Abbe May and Sam Scherr (Capital City).
