After a couple shows supporting Love Outside Andromeda frontwoman Sianna Lee (dates below), Teeth and Tongue (aka Melbourne singer Jess Cornelius) will hit the tarmac for her maiden European tour. Armed with a drum machine and electric guitar, she’ll be playing shows in Spain, the UK and Germany – not only that, but she’ll be writing about it for M+N. In other news, Cornelius is currently in the studio with Simon Grounds (Underground Lovers, Rocket Science, Bird Blobs) recording the follow-up to her debut Monobasic. It’s set for release in late 2010. Teeth and Tongue will perform with Sianna Lee at The National Hotel in Geelong on May 13 and at The Toff in Town in Melbourne on May 15. These will be her last shows before departing for Europe.
Due to “unforeseen changed personal circumstances”, The Paradise Motel have had to cancel the launch of their new album Australian Ghost Story at Melbourne’s Thornbury Theatre on June 11. However, this does not affect the release date of the album – the band’s first in 10 years – which is scheduled to be distributed nationally by Inertia on that same day (more details here). In better news, The Paradise Motel will be offering a special edition of the CD with a commemorative ceramic medallion. It will be available through The Paradise Motel website from the 11th. An upcoming east-coast tour is scheduled for September/October.
After last month’s surprise decision to move its business model online, Melbourne’s Rubber Records is holding one final garage sale of its remaining physical stock. From 9am-1pm on Saturday (May 15), you’ll be able to get your hands on discs by the likes of The Underground Lovers, The Casanovas and, er, JET at Rubber’s warehouse, 441 Spencer Street, West Melbourne. All stock $1, or nearest offer. After that, they’re all going “in the dumpster” – yes, even those precious classics by 1200 Techniques.
