The continual grumbles about Australia’s festival market being saturated would probably be put to bed if, for once at least, one of the newbies went off without a hitch.
Following Pyramid’s weather troubles, Blueprint’s very existence and the disappearance of Brisbane’s Lost Weekend, Groovin’ The Moo organisers have issued an apology for the lengthy delays at the weekend’s Bendigo event.
In a statement circulated yesterday, promoter Stephen Halpin said organisers couldn’t cope with the “unprecedented number” of patrons, who arrived at Bendigo’s Prince of Wales Showground “very early in the day”. This resulted in extensive delays, with some disgruntled patrons reportedly spending some three hours in queues – have they never been to Meredith at 10am on Friday?
“Since 2005 we’ve run over twelve GTM events around the country, and we have never experienced that amount of traffic entering an event at the one time,” Halpin said. “There is several months of planning behind every GTM event to ensure a smooth, safe, enjoyable and hassle free experience as possible for our patrons. There were no delays like this at the first ever GTM event in Bendigo last year, or at any of our previous 12 events around Australia…
“GTM prides itself on taking an amazing array of artists into various regions of Australia and putting on a great day out. We share the disappointment and understand the frustration that some of our patrons experienced in Bendigo.”
He said organisers would take the feedback on board for next year. “GTM understands and respects the criticism we are receiving and we want to assure you that these delays were not due to lack of care or trying to cut corners.”
Halpin, however, would not be drawn on complaints about silverchair’s new tracks, which according to reports on the FasterLouder message board, sounded like “Daft Punk fucking Optimus Prime”. Here's some vision:
The festival concludes this weekend with shows in Maitland and Canberra. Acts on the bill include Vampire Weekend, Empire of The Sun, Lisa Mitchell, Spoon, Grinspoon and Tegan and Sara.

maybe they should just apologise for Bendigo.
wow. that dude who said ''Daft Punk fucking Optimus Prime'' is like a total celebrity now!
Bendigo isn't their fault... poor Bendigo.
Poor Optimus Prime.
Until they apologise for the name ''Groovin' The Moo'', they're worse than Hitler as far as I'm concerned.
They should just hold this at the Deni Ute Muster next year and save everyone a lot of bother.
hope the poor canby kids going to gtm this sunday don't have the same woes.
Canberra kids have woes no matter what happens.
Deni Ute Muster? That be damned, its all about the Mallee Root Roundup these days.
especially when they live in woden.
When will Daniels John's spit the cum out of his mouth and come outta the closet already?
do you want my autograph?
no.
I want Silverchair to go far far away.
I blame wolfmother
Worst. Name. Ever.
Ha, a mate of mine spent the night in the lock-up in Bendigo after being arrested for 'standing on the road'. Fuck Bendigo.
I really thought silverchair couldn't get any worse.
But there you go. They just did it.
Can someone explain what Groovin' in the Moo even is?
carving your initials into the side of a cow
yesterday in maitland was an amazing day. i was working, not a punter, but from all accounts everything seemed to really come together really well, and the festival was totally grand.
