Parallel Lions, the new-ish outfit for Art of Fighting frontman Ollie Browne, will play consecutive shows in Melbourne and Sydney later this week. The band last surfaced for the launch of debut album, Holding Patterns, in late 2009, and have only made a solitary live appearance this year. They will make amends with performances at The Workers Club in Melbourne on May 7 and Raval in Sydney on May 8. Supports by Single Twin, the new project for former Deloris frontman Marcus Teague in full (five-piece) band mode.
For those who missed it in Melbourne the first time, Dappled Cities will reprise their Zounds installation in Sydney next month. Coinciding with a “homecoming” tour this winter (dates here), Dappled have curated an exhibit of artworks inspired by the music from Zounds at MART Gallery in Surry Hills. It’ll be on display from May 31-June 5. In other Dappled-related news, the band have decided to call the UK home (for the time being at least). They will arrive in Australia next month following a tour of the UK, including stints at The Great Escape and Liverpool Sound City festivals, and a stop in Asia for the Music Matters conference.
Perth art rock act Schvendes have gone all hi-fi for their latest release, the double A-side single ‘Lay The Noose’/‘Shades Of Grey’ – and to celebrate they’re playing a launch at The Rosemount Hotel in their hometown this Saturday (May 8). Produced by Dave Parkin (Sugar Army, Snowman), the single is the first taste of a forthcoming full-length album, the follow-up to their 2008 debut Sweet Talk Your Enemies. Supports at the launch include Felicity Groom & The Black Black Smoke, The Wednesday Society and Minute 36. Tickets: $12 on the door.
