Chances Of New Gersey Album ‘Very Good’

Buoyed by their recent “reunion” tour with Pavement, Melbourne’s Gersey may well record another album.

Speaking to M+N today (April 22), singer/bassist Craig Jackson said that while the band have no immediate plans to get back into the studio or hit the road, the chances of a new Gersey record are “very good”.

“There’s a lot of talk about it,” he said. “We played a show at The Toff [in Melbourne] at the beginning of the year. It was a lot of fun and a lot of people turned up, so that was great. There’s talk of maybe making another record, but we’ll have to wait and see how that pans out. I don’t want to disappoint or get people’s hopes up at this stage.”

Gersey’s last released an album in 2006 with No Satellites. They recently regrouped to support Pavement on last month’s reunion tour. “We had an absolute ball playing again,” said Jackson. “It was like it was when we started playing together, so that’s really positive.”

In the meantime, Jackson is gearing up for the release of the debut album by his new outfit The Sirens of Venice, which he helms with his actor/singer wife Camilla (you may know her from those iSelect ads). Recorded with Vince Giarrusso and Jed Palmer from The Underground Lovers, it’ll be out through Speak N Spell on June 4.

The remaining Gersey members currently ply their trade in side projects The Tall Buildings and Bombazine Black.

Full interview with Jackson to be published soon.

Chance Of New Gersey Album being ‘Very Good’: Not likely.

Fixed.

I still think Hope Springs is a stunning, beautiful record.

But age, ego and bombast have really wearied them as a band.

The more they push on, the more obvious the dearth of good ideas becomes ...

Let's hope they can change that.

I prefer Storms Dressed as Stars to Hope Springs. But love them both. Satellites I cant get into at all (but it may just me being lazy)
