My Disco Talk New Album, Euro Tour

Melbourne’s My Disco have spoken exclusively with M+N about their “relaxing” tracking session with Steve Albini at his Electrical Audio studio in Chicago last month. And according to guitarist Ben Andrews, each day went a little something like this:

  1. Wake up
  2. Drink some coffee
  3. Play three-cushion billiards
  4. Eat some Mexican food
  5. Record for a bit
  6. Drink some beer
  7. Eat at Hot Doug’s
  8. Record a bit more
  9. Go down to Kuma's for a “Dark Throne Burger” and an India Pale Ale

The album – the band’s third – clocks in at just under 60 minutes and features nine songs, including a re-recorded version of their current single ‘Young’, as well as a bunch of tracks they’ve recently aired live. Andrews describes it as the band’s “most adventurous work to date”.

“The recording went super well,” he told M+N. “We are quite comfortable with the studio now, seeing as this is our second bout recording there with Steve [2008’s Paradise was recorded there too]. It's almost too relaxing and easy, like it doesn't have any of the usual associated pressures of being in a recording studio.”

The album will now be mixed at Big Jesus Burger Studios in Sydney with Scott Horscroft engineering. It’s tentatively set for release in September this year. “It was nice to not have to completely finish a record in less than a week,” Andrews jokes.

Despite a proverbial raincloud following them every time they leave Australia (you can read about this in greater detail here and here), My Disco are once again off to bask in the European sun in May. The band are scheduled to perform a string of shows in the UK, France, the Netherlands, Denmark, Belgium, Finland and Russia, but not before they play a farewell show in their hometown of Melbourne. You can bid them adieu at the Grace Darling Hotel in Collingwood on April 30. The set will feature all new material, as well as special guests Super Wild Horses.

I swear I saw 40 year old Ben making butt rollies on the Flinders station steps yesterday. Couldn't get the balls to take a photo though. He looked dangerous.

Doors opened at 8:30, was sold out by 8:45. People lining up outside missed out. They're selling ''cancer'' on vinyl, apparenty found a long lost box of them.

Managing to get in was rad.
SWH were rad.
My friend fainting before MD was not rad.
The reaction from the bar staff (helping him down the stairs, getting him a bottle of water, showing genuine concern without assuming he had overimbibed) was rad.
MD were rad.
Mikey's guitar breaking down was not rad.
