In Brief: Crayon Fields, Gareth Liddiard, Community Cup
  • Back from a “triumphant” tour of the US, Crayon Fields will play their first headline show on home soil since last October's album launches for All The Pleasures Of The World. The quartet, who recently returned from a three-week stint in the US that included five shows at South by Southwest, will perform at the Northcote Social Club on April 24. Tickets on sale via www.northcotesocialclub.com, guests TBA.

  • When The Drones’ Gareth Liddiard steps out on his own for a solo tour later this month he won’t be doing it alone. Joining him will be a trio of frontman in solo, stripped-back mode including Ben Salter from The Gin Club and Giants of Science (April 15 at The Troubadour, Brisbane), Jed Kurzel from The Mess Hall (April 16 at Notes Live, Sydney) and Jacky Winter (aka Phil Gionfriddo) from The Bowers and Dynamo (April 23 at The Northcote Social Club, Melbourne). Tickets are available from the venues and are reportedly selling fast.

  • Entries have opened for the “Free Kick” Competition, an initiative offering an emerging act the chance to perform at this year’s Community Cup charity football match in Melbourne. To enter, bands will need to download an entry form via www.communitycup.org.au and mail it along with a four track CD, a one page bio and a photo to SYN Media Free Kick Competition, PO Box 21013 A’Beckett Street, Melbourne VIC 8006. Five finalists will then be selected for a “Battle of the Bands”-style face-off at The Esplanade Hotel in May, with the winning band selected by judges from SYN Media, Inpress, PBS and Triple R. Entries close on April 27. The Community Cup will take place on June 27 at Elsternwick Park. More details here.

Anyone got spare tickets to Gareth @ the NSC this Friday?

Got some friends over from the UK who I thought would enjoy a chance to see him in solo mode.
