In Brief: The Black Ryder, Earth Hour, Kid Sam
  • Sydney’s The Black Ryder – Aimee Nash and Scott Von Ryper, formerly of The Morning After Girls – have just inked two international deals that will see the release of their debut album in the US and Japan. Out locally in late 2009, Buy The Ticket, Take The Ride will be out through Vinyl Junkie in Japan and through Mexican Summer (home to Wooden Shjips, Dungen and The Tallest Man On Earth) in the US. In other news, the duo will be touring nationally in support of The Cult in May. A US tour is also in the works.

  • For one hour this Saturday (March 27), the world will turn off its lights as a call to action against global warming. As for Tim Rogers, he’ll be playing “unplugged” on a rug. The You Am I frontman will take time out from writing a cabaret show (for real) to perform at an Earth Hour event at Melbourne Zoo. Supports by M+N Readers Poll winners Wagons and Blackchords. Cost: $36/$24.50 kids. BYO food and alcohol. Limited tickets at the gate or via www.zoo.org.au.

  • Despite a press release/print ad/poster to the contrary, Batrider will be supporting Kid Sam at the Northcote Social Club on April 2, and not Mick Turner (who is supporting the following night). However, in light of the error, valid ticket holders who’d prefer to swap nights, can do so via the Northcote Social Club box office. Seagull are supporting both shows. I am going to bribe a stage tech to turn the lights out on Rogers no matter what time he plays.
