NZ's The Chills Are Coming

Related: The Chills.
One of the key proponents of the Flying Nun sound, Dunedin’s The Chills, will return to Australia for the first time since 1992. The band will perform two shows only: at the East Brunswick Club in Melbourne on May 14 and at Sydney’s Oxford Art Factory on May 15.
Formed in Dunedin in 1980 from the remains of high school punk band The Same, The Chills have gone through nearly 20 incarnations over the years, but haven’t wavered in their “single-minded determination to take quality original NZ-sounding melodic rock music to the world”. Still helmed by founder and guitarist Martin Phillipps – the band’s only constant member – The Chills’ current touring line-up consists of James Dixon, Erica Stichbury, Todd Knudson and Oli Wilson.
An institution in their native New Zealand, where their songs have appeared on TV, commercials and on film soundtracks, the band are best known for their classic single ‘Pink Frost’, which was recently covered by Brisbane’s I Heart Hiroshima.
The tour is being presented by Mistletone, local champions of the “Dunedin Sound”, who are also bringing The Bats back to Australia in April.

Good one mistletone.
I'm in.
Bring out 3D's MT, and I know a DJ who'll play with em.....
; )
i know at least 4 JP! :-)
Will this be one of the ''tone'' shows like Wintertones and Castletones with a stack of other excellent bands playing too?
and get jps experience to reform, please. i'll be the one...who is the only one there. probably.
sigh.
I still hum ''I love my leather jacket'' when I put on my leather jacket.
Brisbane plz
heavenly pop hit. pink frost. siiiiiiiiiiiiiiigh.
balanced with the fact he still stands as the worst interview subject i have ever dealt with in 20 years.
i just hope his 'health' is good. i so love that rock n roll euphemism for 'heroin habit'.
i always thought 'wet blanket' was their best tune.
great band in their day.
the verlaines next?! g'arn!
wet blanket
I make that five. Who's missing from the photo, then?
Oli Wilson is the missing person.
*the band are best known for their classic single ‘Pink Frost’, which was recently covered by Brisbane’s I Heart Hiroshima.
I think that should read, ''most recently''... this song has been covered by an endless number of bands.
But yey, I have my ticket and can't wait!
DOLEDRUMS!!
Man, I'm so there! This show will be a dream come true for me!!! I've never seen these guys, but hardly a day passes where I don't have one of their songs in my head. My current favourite is ''Look For The Good In Others''.
Have you heard this frankie?
I've been meaning to get this. Do you think it'll be available down at Marlene's Fish Shop any time soon?
personally i'm hanging for a clean/verlaines double bill. make it happen mistletone!
I'm so fucken pissed I won't be in the country for this. Maybe they'll do some european dates around june/july and I can stalk them.

Perhaps I should place it in the social deep fryer.
Though you should now be the proud owner via that 4dvd lunch pack I made you.

Yes but I'm not arriving till 11pm sorry.
Twas a fun night out.
So much fun. I'm much more of a Bats fan but Martin and co. really took the cake in the live setting. Such a good setlist.
Thanks heaps Mistletone. So who's next anyway? Verlaines, 3Ds, The Clean or Scribe?
Awesome that they did Matthew and Son (Cat Stevens) for the encore.
The singers voice totally sounds like Cat Stevens too.
Couldn't understand what the singer was saying, cause of his accent but yeah fun times.
Saw some intense fans, eyes closed like moths to the light of the beautiful songs.
Congrats for putting on an awesome sellout show Mistletone and The Chills! I hope they come back soon.
That was fucking fantastic! Hearing Wet Blanket made my year. Such an outstanding evening, array of hits and the joy of watching that bass player in action.
Highlight = Getting Martin to say Bonza.
When I recover the setlist from my mates car I'll post it up.
Did you come along and record the Sydney show I am Morris?
Here are a few photos:
Nice! You reminded me to check my dodgy mobile phone for drunken pics I'd forgotten I'd taken... and sure enough....
Eeew! Did Martin Phillipps wear the same sweaty shirt two days in a row?
I'm disappointed in myself for not going. If it were anywhere but oxford arts i wouldn't have minded going by myself. That place makes me nervous, safety in numbers and whatnot.
Dear Chills (&Mistletone),
Please come back soon, I do adore thee.
Hellza xo
Good call Hellza. If nothing else, it's inspired me to load Kaleidoscope World on to my mp3 player in preparation for my long tram rides to the Northcote
I'm listening to some of the Secret Box stuff right now, superb. Headed to a party at Gertrudes tonight, sorry Zond. I'll be out and about later though if you happen to be :]
Cool nice photos
