The members of The Drones don’t believe in breaks. If one ever comes up, maybe sandwiched in between a tour of Europe or the US, they use that downtime to perform in their solo guises or record a new album. So, after a run of sell-out shows in Sydney and Melbourne (photo evidence here), it’s unsurprising to see Gareth Liddiard return to the stage for a trio of solo shows: April 15 at The Troubadour in Brisbane, April 16 at Notes Live in Sydney and April 23 at The Northcote Social Club in Melbourne. Armed with an acoustic guitar only, Liddiard will reportedly be airing songs from a debut solo album, which is due out later this year. As for The Drones, they’re about to head into the studio to record the follow-up to Havilah.
It’s only March, but Ned Collette + Wirewalker have announced details of their final show in Australia for 2010. The band will perform at a warehouse in Christmas Street in the Melbourne suburb of Fairfield on March 20, before embarking on a European tour in April ahead of Collette’s relocation to Berlin. The show will serve as the launch of a new EP, The Pool Is Full Of Hats, which will be available at the show in limited quantities, digitally from iTunes or via mail order. More details here.
Organisers of Melbourne institution The Community Cup – a charity football game between the Triple R/PBS “Megahertz” and The Espy “Rockdogs” – are calling for volunteers. Those interested will be asked to work three hour shifts at the event in a variety of roles including food and beverage service, traffic management, gate attendance, and set up/pack down at the venue. Visit www.reclink.org or email volunteers@reclink.org to register your interest. The Community Cup will take place at Elsternwick Park on June 27.
