Tame Impala Announce Album, Tour

Perth’s Tame Impala have a release date for their anticipated debut LP. Dubbed InnerSpeaker, it’ll be out through Modular on May 21, with the band heading out on a full-scale national tour to launch it a week prior.

Kicking off on May 13 at Surfers Beer Garden on the Gold Coast (yikes!), the tour will mark the first time much of the record is played live, although new songs were aired during a stormy set (literally) at the Golden Plains festival in Victoria on Sunday. All shows with fellow Sandgropers The Silents.

Following on from their debut self-titled EP, InnerSpeaker was recorded and produced by the band's singer Kevin Parker and engineered by Tim Holmes (Death In Vegas) in an “enormous mansion with 180 degree views of the Indian Ocean in the middle of buttfuck nowhere a few hours south of Perth”. It was later mixed in a log cabin in upstate New York by Dave Fridmann (The Flaming Lips, MGMT). It’s available for pre-order now from the Modular Shop.

Tickets on sale from March 18.

Very interested to see what the kids have come up with.

Is the kid middle right G-man with long hair?

pipik  said about 1 year ago:

Why should we care what kind of house the record was mixed in?

Talk about padding up their bio.

Anything with tim holmes involved is gonna be fucking awesome

TransientRandom  said about 1 year ago:

God, who doesn't write dumb shit about where their thing was recorded. Think about all the wankers who go to Iceland. Actually, incidentally, with the economy fucked, now would be an excellent time for wankers to record in Iceland!

Looking forward to the record. Indeed, the house looks very sweet indeed.

Youse wif tix - Make sure you get there early to see the Sun Blindness, for they are awesome.

And the Silents too, obviously.

postie  said about 1 year ago:

How can this band sell out a 1500 capacity venue when they’ve only just released their debut album today? They’ve been touring the same material for a couple of years playing everywhere and everything and yet here they are. It’s not like they’ve released anything that’s all over commercial radio. I know they’re a ‘buzz band’ but it boggles the mind.

Coz  said about 1 year ago:

They did sell out a couple of corner shows a while back, so I guess seeling out the forum is a logical step from there. They're damn good too, I like 'em.

I would have loved to make it there for the support acts, but unfortunately I had work till 8 which leaves little time for going home, getting changed, eating dinner and making it back out to the venue in time. I'll make an effort to see the supports at their own shows sometime in the near future.

Maybe your band just needs to get a little better dude.

timewaster  said about 1 year ago:

They are a good band with heaps of airplay and industry support. That is your answer.

hyperfuzz  said about 1 year ago:

jebus, these guys must listen to nothing but dungen.

hyperfuzz  said about 1 year ago:

now most of the way through the album... these guys REALLY like dungen. but hey, it's not bad.

temporarybenbutler  said about 1 year ago:

The kids love them. Was a huge queue of youngsters in JB HiFi on Saturday waiting to get their stuff signed. Signed! How quaint.

hyperfuzz  said about 1 year ago:

that's actually pretty awesome.

sorry to go on about dungen, but is tame impala music on an tv ad at the moment? for weeks i was thinking how weird it was that someone put dungen on an ad...

timewaster  said about 1 year ago:

Yeah, they are huge Dungen fans

TransientRandom  said about 1 year ago:

Yeah, how funny is that Crown Casino ad! Yeah, I can totally see those dudes swanning round with the besuited in a luxury hotel and GAMBLING. I hope they got paid trazillions for that.

Jackbratt  said about 1 year ago:

Wait....crown casino ad? Explain. (I don't watch television)

TransientRandom  said about 1 year ago:

I watch enough for at least three people...

It's one of the songs from the first ep backgrounding some tossers ''living the high life'' in Melbourne's Crown Casino. I imagine they are rich as kings and are out shopping for gold plated underwear as we speak.

Jackbratt  said about 1 year ago:

Unfortunately, selling your song to TV etc is one of the only decent sources of income for a band in this country. As this may seem like they are selling their souls, they probably didn't have another option.

TransientRandom  said about 1 year ago:

Nah, I'm all for it. I'd do it in a second if it wasn't for something completely repugnant. Enough cash for some sweet ass plane tickets, plus a bit of ''exposure'' (vomit).

There are other ways to make money, but they hurt, and can strain relations between band members, particularly if anyone feels a little awkward about seeing the others naked.

Jackbratt  said about 1 year ago:

Yeah i'd sell my soul if somebody wanted it.

tangy_zizzle  said about 1 year ago:

It's an ad for a hotel, rather than the casino.

http://www.crownmetropol.com.au/

temporarybenbutler  said about 1 year ago:

A hotel ''conveniently located'' right next to the casino.

Perhaps Tame Impala could put all their royalties on black.

Do successful bands even get royalties these days?

Jackbratt  said about 1 year ago:

Hell yes they do. The best royalties also come from getting played on the tele.

temporarybenbutler  said about 1 year ago:

Apparently digital is a steady river of cash these days.

Jackbratt  said about 1 year ago:

Hells yeah it is. When the Dandy Warhols sold ''Bohemian Like You'' to a car add in the states they built their own recording studio/rehearsal space. That would be amazing.

JunkiePhil  said about 1 year ago:

Thought I'd have a listen to see what all the fuss is about, ain't had much grab me as yet.
Whats a 'good' song to listen to?

blake3030  said about 1 year ago:

I like 'expectations'.

anok  said about 1 year ago:

alter ego is my fav.

TransientRandom  said about 1 year ago:

Hells yeah it is. When the Dandy Warhols sold ''Bohemian Like You'' to a car add in the states they bought TONNES OF COCAINE!

Fixed :)
