Darren Cross ‘Airs’ New Side Project

“We describe our sound as 1950s grunge or a Neil Sedaka-on-PCP record getting blasted from an ice-cream truck.” It’s the kind of zany, yet perfectly apt one-line bio only Darren Cross is capable of.
Formerly of aural provocateurs Gerling, Cross has seemingly left his E.L.F electro excursions behind him in favour of new lo-fi pop project called Betty Airs. Featuring Cross on guitar/vocals, singer Cristian Campano and Michael Zagoridis on drums, the band are currently recording a set of demos with the plan to “start gigging heaps”. Debut airing, ‘Jennifer’s Enemy’, is currently streaming here. It was recorded in a shed in Glebe, Royal Headache style, with two microphones, but tellingly no turntables.
The band will play their first gig at The Annandale in their native Sydney on April 3. In the meantime, check out their Facebook page here.
