Forthcoming: Faux Pas

News posted Wednesday, March 3 2010 at 01:00 PM.
Related: Faux Pas.

What: Noiseworks by Faux Pas.

When: Mid-April through Sensory Projects/Heroics.

Key notes: Second album for Melbourne-based producer Faux Pas (aka Tim Shiel). Arriving four years after debut album Entropy Begins at Home, it features singles 'Chasing Waterfalls' and 'Silver Line', which we described as “lush, dreamy future pop that just begs you to dive in headfirst”. Pieced together with the help of producer/composer Franc Tétaz (Gotye, Architecture in Helsinki, Wolf Creek), Noiseworks also marks the arrival of Shiel’s Heroics label, a tentative structure set up to “develop and promote future sound projects”.

First impressions: Get passed the Jon Stevens-evoking title and you’ll find a meticulously crafted collage of sound that varies from bubbling synth-pop (the delightfully erratic ‘Megasports’) to ambient slowburners (‘Minimums’). Shiel has an inability to sit still – the album is rife with tempo changes and shifting moods – but when he strikes that balance between melody and vision (‘Chasing Waterfalls’ and ‘Silver Line’), it’s truly sublime. Fans of Qua, Seekae and Mountains In The Sky look no further.
