ECSR Crack ARIA’s Top 20

An endorsement from Ian “Dicko” Dickson, an ARIA nomination, an Australian Music Prize, a critical backlash, a Jonathan Boulet cover – it was only a matter of time before Eddy Current Suppression Ring tasted chart success.

The Melbourne quartet’s third album Rush To Relax has entered this week’s ARIA’s album chart at number 20 “with a bullet”, one place behind Vampire Weekend’s Contra and ahead of records by Lily Allen, P!nk and the late Johnny Cash. It was one of only two local new releases to enter the charts this week, with Before Too Long: Triple J's Tribute To Paul Kelly in at number 11.

Over at ARIA’s Australian album charts, Rush to Relax is currently sitting at number four, behind the triple j compilation, AC/DC’s platinum-selling Black Ice and The Temper Trap’s Conditions, which recently went gold (35,000 units). While ARIA doesn’t disclose how many units are sold for individual chart placings, on an average week, roughly 2500 copies are needed to push an album into the Top 10.

Out now through Shock Records, Rush To Relax was accorded “On Rotation” status by M+N last month. It will be launched across the country in March-April before the band heads to the US. Dates here.

jonathan boulet. it's in the story.

As if toadphoney ever reads a story here.

mathieson  said about 1 year ago:

When the Triple J hosts said that Boulet had Waddy playing with him I thought for a second it must be Waddy Wachtel.

toadphoney  said about 1 year ago:

I read the name jonathan boulet. But who is that?

Bugsy.  said about 1 year ago:

how can they have a top 20 song? they only recorded their album in one day

scallywag  said about 1 year ago:

looking at the different aria charts, ECSR are #17 in the digital album chart and #18 in the physical album chart - can someone explain how they are #20 in the overall album chart?

mathieson  said about 1 year ago:

They add the two sales totals together to get an overall figure that's compared to everyone else's total for the week.

scallywag  said about 1 year ago:

i'm still confused. where did the 2 or 3 entities come from that weren't represented in either the digital or physical charts to push them down to 20 in the overall chart?

JunkiePhil  said about 1 year ago:

Some one else had a better average from the 2.

Jackbratt  said about 1 year ago:

2500 copies sold to bump you into the top 10? It really doesn't seem like a lot does it.

JunkiePhil  said about 1 year ago:

That is fuck'n heaps.

mathieson  said about 1 year ago:

The chart number assigned to the individual totals - #17 and #18 - isn't connected to the overall chart number (#20). It's the total of the sales that determines the latter.

Someone could be #1 digital (5,000 units) and #200 physical (10 units) - what matters from that is the total is 5010, which might equate to #3 on the overall chart.

.

scallywag  said about 1 year ago:

thanks mathieson. seems pretty straight foward.

does a digital sale count the same as a physical sale ie. 1:1 ?

Video clip looks good at least. Good merchandising opportunities for creepy masks and nightgowns.
