After years of mutually admiring each other from afar, esteemed Melbourne label Sensory Projects (Mum Smokes, Love Connection) have teamed up with producer Faux Pas (aka Tim Shiel) for the release of his second album, Noiseworks. The album, which has absolutely nothing to do with Jon Stevens, features singles 'Chasing Waterfalls' and 'Silver Line', which we described as an “absolute treat”. Arriving four years after the release of the first Faux Pas album, Entropy Begins at Home, it’ll be out through Sensory and Shiel’s own imprint, Heroics, in mid-April.
From one beatmaker to another, Brain Children’s Max Kohane will help launch Render, a series of quarterly electronic beat performances at Bar Open in Melbourne, tonight (February 25). Founded by local producers Baddums and Aoi, the event will feature free live performances by electronic and sample-based producers, as well as product demos, masterclasses, Q&As and a “listening lounge”. Performers at the inaugural Render include Perth’s DOS4GW, Urban Monk (Polo Club), Dysphemic and Aux-One (Wax Museum), with Kohane giving away free copies of his new EP, Pieces and Portions Vol 1. Melbourne songsmiths The Solomons have inked a recent deal with Popboomerang Records (Skipping Girl Vinegar and a bunch of others) that will see the release of their debut EP via MGM distribution next month. Recorded by Craig Harnath and Finn Keane at Hothouse Studios and mastered by Tony Mantz at Jack The Bear Deluxe Mastering, it’ll be launched on March 20 at Ding Dong Lounge in their hometown.
