In Brief: AXXONN, The AMP, Single Twin
  • Brisbane laptop extremists AXXONN will be blistering eardrums in their hometown this weekend in support of their new cassette release, Below The Dead Ones. The band will perform at The Step Inn on February 13 with Blank Realm, Heart Flew Like An Arrow and Per Purpose. Out on Bedroom Suck Records, the cassette was recorded in 7hz, a custom-made studio built inside a warehouse in San Francisco’s famous “Dog Patch” area. The release is a precursor to an album that was produced and record last year at Rotterdam’s Worm Stuio and mixed at 7hz. “We've had some solid offers from overseas to put out the LP but we’re basically waiting for the paper work to unfold and the dotted line to present itself,” said AXXONN’s Tom Hall. • The shortlist for the Australian Music Prize will be announced at the St Kilda Festival this Sunday (February 14), but at least one nominee will have to act surprised. In keeping with tradition, organisers have pre-announced that Sydney emcee Urthboy has been shortlisted for the $30,000 prize for his album Spitshine. The full list of nominees will be announced to the public by Channel [V] presenter Kyle Linahan and Brad Barry of last year’s winners “Eddie (sic) Current Supression (sic) Ring” at 6pm on the St Kilda Festival’s main stage. M+N will publish the full shortlist when the media embargo lifts at 6.15pm.

  • Single Twin (aka the new solo project from Deloris’ Marcus Teague) will launch its debut EP next week, despite doing similar, albeit less legitimate shows at warehouses in Sydney and Melbourne late last year. Teague, backed by a five-piece band, will perform at The Toff in Town in Melbourne on February 18 with supports from The Orbweavers and Brain Cartridge Load Error. The EP features six tracks including ‘Get To Love You’ and ‘Came Home Dead’, the clip of which is streaming at M+N TV.
