In Brief: Dot Dash, The Drones, Ned Collette

Following a bout of “rustic contemplation”, Dot Dash have announced the signing of two new acts. Joining the likes of Snowman, Wolf & Cub and St Helens at the venerable indie imprint are Sydney outfit Parades (pictured) and Adelaide’s Fire! Santa Rosa, Fire!. Featuring Modular’s new “it” boy Jonathan Boulet, Parades recently performed at Homebake and Field Day and toured Australia’s east-coast with Gomez. Their debut album Foreign Tapes is set for release in early April. Meanwhile, Fire! Santa Rosa, Fire! will release their first long-player, Sea Priest, in March. It will be accompanied by dates in Adelaide, Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne.
Melbourne’s love for The Drones knows no bounds. With their first show at The East Brunswick Club promptly selling out and tickets to their second selling fast, a third and final show has been announced for February 22. Super Wild Horses in support. For tickets and more information click here. There will be no extra Sydney dates (in addition to the two Annandale shows) announced.
Ned Collette + Wirewalker’s four-week residency at Melbourne’s Edinburgh Castle moves into its second week tomorrow night (February 11). As per last week, and the weeks to come, tomorrow’s show will feature two free sets covering the latest album Over The Stones, Under The Stars; some new material (to be released as an EP later this month); re-workings of old stuff; and the odd cover. In addition to the residency, Collette will play a string of shows before he relocates to Berlin: with Joe Gideon & The Shark (UK) on February 19, Bachelorette (NZ) and at the Applecore Backyard Festival on February 20 and at the NGV’s “Last Day Of Summer” on February 28. Full details here. A special farewell show is also in the works for March 20, with line-up and venue TBA.

3rd show announced MON. 22nd FEB.-
THE SPOILS supporting.
Tonight's NC + Wirewalker gig comes with special guest James Rushford on keyboards. Plus Ben's gonna sing a song.
Ed Castle, 8pm.
Can a person legally be signed to two labels at once in the same territory? Intriguing!
boulet's not considered the key man in parades. modular have him as a solo artist.
Yeah, I know it's only him signed to Modular, but even as a player... I'm curious. Unless bth labels have only signed the main songwriter. That sucks. DRUMMER'S RIGHTS! BOOO!
what is this nonsense you speak?
A brief APRA dig shows all members of Parades listed as songwriters.
To be honest, that sentence was actually just the result of having mashed my fists on the keyboard as I made a strained guttural sound. It's nice when it comes out as actual words.
interesting. but i'd reckon boulet as parades drummer will exit if his own profile gets any bigger.
but they'd remain an operating entity. i reckon they need a female drummer for a little balance. but all the good ones have too many gigs already....
oh, you'd be a drummer then?
I don't think gender's really important in music at all. But I know that's not a popular opinion...
oh, you'd be a female drummer then?
not popular? probably. but sadly, not a realistic one.
Third Wirewalker residency show tonight at the EC - again with James Rushford carving keyboards. 8pm, free.
