The Paradise Motel’s Ghostly Return

The Paradise Motel have returned after a 10-year disappearing act with concept album Australian Ghost Story.
Reflecting on the widely publicised disappearance of Azaria Chamberlain in 1980, the album will be performed in its entirety for one show only at Melbourne’s the Toff in Town on March 9. A full release is slated soon after, although there is some talk of the album being available on the night via USB stick in limited-edition packaging with all the imagery and lyrics (but don’t hold us/them to that). In the meantime, two Australian Ghost Story tracks are available from the band’s website for free download.
Formed in Tasmania in 1994, The Paradise Motel released a clutch of EPs and two albums, Still Life and Flight Paths, before moving to London in 1998. After two years of extensive overseas touring, the band took an extended break. The current line-up features original members Merida Sussex (vocals), Charles Bickford (acoustic guitar), Matthew Aulich (guitar) and Mark Austin (keyboards, pedal steel) augmented by British emigre Esme Macdonald (bass), Tasmanian-born Andy Hazel (drums) and Campbell Shaw (violin).
Currently based in London, Sussex is flying in especially for the gig.

fuck yes. again.
i've got tickets to this. they do the slow build to a crescendo so well.
shit... I need to buy tix still...
who's that in the photo? she looks so sad. predictably, that makes me wanna know more about this band.
Aw merida has the grumps. I hope she turns the frown upside down before the gig
sweet as...
Have tickets. Flying down. Awesome. This will be interesting, though whether it can match my memories is another thing.
Here's hoping some older tunes turn up. Extended encore, guys!
Same night as Dirty Projectors at Hi-Fi. What to do...
how very interested mcselfobsessed. please please, tell us more about things you need in a thinly veiled attempt to advertise your cred through liking a band.
I need to send you a turd in the mail jasmine.poo!
Andy Hazel what!
Yeah, I wanna see Andy drum.
No Matt Bailey though...
yeah surprised by no Matt, what's the go? did he opt out?
Wasn't Sacha (from the morning after girls) temporarily in this band?
Drugs!
He hadn't played with them for a while, had he? I thought he'd left when they were in the UK still.
Note it's now ''Mark Austin'' not ''BJ Austin''.
Chats in bands?
I'd like to see them again, especially after the last time I saw them where the vocals dropped out and I heard the band play, while Merida Sussex sang into an empty mic for three songs.
It'd be awesome if there was a string quartet involved. The tour they did with strings was pretty special - the Sydney gig was in a now-closed venue which used to be the upstairs of a garage.
nice!
i'd like a Sydney show please.
that whole limited things sucks for those of us who can't make it there (but really want it).
anyone who's going wanna buy one for me? please?
More than happy to. PM me.
So would I, but I don't think it's gonna happen. Hence, travel.
They're a band that's (hopefully still) worth it.
Puttin' the Devonport on the map
