Local Acts Stake Claim In Hottest 100

The winner may have been leaked last week, but yesterday’s countdown of triple j’s Hottest 100 still threw up a few surprises.
While UK quartet Mumford & Sons topped the poll with ‘Little Lion Man’ – a fact accidentally revealed by the ABC Shop website – it was Sydney electro act Art vs. Science who shocked most pundits with a number two placing for their dancefloor filler ‘Parlez Vous Francais?’. Bluejuice, Hilltop Hoods and Lisa Mitchell were the only other Australian acts in the top 10.
Despite a relocation to the UK, Temper Trap proved they were still darlings of the Australian public, polling three times for ‘Fader’ (#21), ‘Science of Fear’ (#48) and ‘Love Lost’ (#58). There were also multiple placings for The Middle East (#64 and #87), Sarah Blasko (#28 and #29), Bertie Blackman (#71 and #93), Sia (#50 and #72) and Karnivool (#47 and #63).
There were first-time inclusions for Washington (#67 for ‘Cement’) and Philadelphia Grand Jury (#57 for ‘The Good News’), while John Butler Trio made his obligatory entry at #39 for ‘One Way Road’.
A record 1.1 million votes were lodged for the annual poll, with about 4100 Hottest 100 parties listed with triple j.

Bet I've been in the office longer than you.
Oh, that's right.......
I'm still shocked that Muse's street team didn't prevail again. And I thought Muse's brand of pretend pretension was reaching a Kings of Leon-like tipping point.
And we can surmise that JBT's and Powderfinger's popularity are on the downslide.
Incredible to think that there was no Powderfinger at all. Maybe Kingsmill will run the red pen through them, too...
Thankfully, Karnivool aren't nearly as popular as feared.
Unfortunately, Hilltop Hoods' popularity continues. Do people actually like their rhymes or just their samples (which are very catchy)? Methinks the latter.
I just listened to Parlez Vous Francais on myspace. hmmmmmmm.......
WHERE IS ST HELEN? CURSE OV DIALECT?
first year i hadn't voted in ages. only have myself to blame for the general thumbs down i gave the whole thing.
why no mention of yves klein blue? that was one of the few good songs on the list
Does anybody else find it totally bizarre that 'Parlez Vous Francaise' could really be the most popular song by an Australian band in 2010? Listen to the song...
As for Mumford and Sons...in 2001, there was the 'New Rock Revolution'. In 2004, we had the New Wave revival (Bloc Party, Franz Ferdinand, etc).
In 2010? It's the Middle of the Road revival.
Mumford and Sons. Female 'emotional singers' like Florence and the Machine. About five bands who sound like Coldplay / late U2. There's words for this music: safe and soppy.
Dan_Crad, a Powderfinger song came in at #49.
The Art vs Science song is fucking woeful.
I agree with you Timewaster about the MOR-ness of it all. This shit is just so forgettable.
would they even make a rrr's hottest 100?
They would make the Gertrude Street Hottest 100.
