Gersey To Support Pavement

Gersey To Support Pavement

It’s been two years since they’ve played a live show, but Melbourne’s Gersey will support ’90s icons Pavement on all legs of their upcoming Australian reunion tour.

Kicking off with a sold-out show at Sydney’s Enmore Theatre on March 4, the tour will take in Adelaide, Perth, Brisbane and the Golden Plains festival in rural Victoria before winding up with two shows in Melbourne on March 12 and 14. Of course, the news shouldn’t be much of a surprise given the recent appearance of Gersey members on Spiral Stairs’ most recent solo album, The Real Feel. The band have also backed Spiral on previous Australian tours.

Formed in 1997, Gersey have released a string of acclaimed albums including Hope Springs (2000), Storms Dressed As Stars (2002) and No Satellites (2006). Since then, Daryl Bradie, Danny Tulen and Drew Pearse have performed together as Tall Buildings, while Matt Davis has recorded an album as Bombazine Black. In an interview with M+N last year, Davis said he never considered Gersey a quintessentially Melbourne band. “We were always trying to make timeless international records rather than ‘Melbourne’ records."

Tickets still available from Ticketek.

Hazard_Man  said about 2 years ago:

Is it wishful thinking that his time with Bombazine Black will have inspired a return to Gersey's early-noughties style???

Slow it down, man!!

I think the Duke should give Gersey a present as thanks for the inevitable extra earnings.

melvo666  said about 2 years ago:

i recently got in touch with the 3ds about coming to oz. seems their 'current existence' is only temporary and as much as they'd love to hit oz it probs won't happen.

dang!

When I opened this thread I was gonna write ''I can't stand Gersey''....and then I saw this comment at the very top and realised there was no need, it encapsulated everything I wanted to say far, far better.

runoutgroove  said about 2 years ago:

I think possibly because they were tourmates when Pavement came out in the 90s?

I was just being cheeky. I would love to have Crow opening. Crow (along with Magic Dirt & Noise Addict) did some supports during that first tour from memory.

ccmotions  said about 2 years ago:

yep shame CROW missed out. we did try though...
there were quite few bands with their hats in the ring as you would imagine

in a somewhat consolation, at least for Melby peeps, CROW are headlining the Applecore Festival Sat 20th Feb with (funnily enough considering all this custard talk)
David McCormack & the Polaroids

they were also set to play a double bill show the night before at the Tote, but with news today of the Tote's closing not sure what will happen there, stay tuned

looch, it's been noted that you have appalling taste in music.

so....spiral stairs does all the booking ? and...spiral stairs is in pavement, no ? in fact a founding member ? and the members of pavement seem to be happy for him to do the booking ? so it is not really about sucking cock, but being liked by the touring band. that seems to be a whole different thing to what normally goes on the industry - ie how we would all probably like it to work ?

Goal attack  said about 2 years ago:

which reminds me, i meant to start a thread...

Hoski  said about 2 years ago:

Gee guys, why so much anger towards Gersey? (OK, naff photo but we all do things we regret) Anyway, I may be a lone voice here but their last album was superb. Good to have them back, I say. Maybe it's just me.

bigdaddykane  said about 2 years ago:

Yes it is.

I think people don't like them so much because they squander so much potential with long, boring, quiet, and entirely gay songs. That's all.

montyclift  said about 2 years ago:

storms dressed as stars is a great record.

boring  said about 2 years ago:
