In Brief: Danimals, High Tide, Dead Dog
  • After spending the last half of ’09 in Mark Ronson’s New York studio with the likes of Sean Lennon and Santigold, Danimals will come crashing down to earth when they launch their debut double A-side at Spectrum in Sydney on January 15. Out now on Speak N Spell via iTunes, “Hornet’s Nest/Christmas Worms Quest for Fresh Apples” was described by M+N as “all set for the beach party boom box”. Supports by Sydney super-group Fashion Launches/Rocket Launches. Tickets: $10 via Moshtix or $12 on the door.

  • Six Melbourne bands will take to the seas for High Tide, a boat party with a difference. Love of Diagrams, The Twerps, Pets With Pets, Breaker Morant, Hissey Miyake and Franco Cozzo will perform on board the Lady Cutler on February 7 as she makes her way around Port Phillip Bay for an afternoon of “bands, boat shoes and beers”. The boat will depart from Docklands at 11.15am. Tickets: $20 (presale only) via www.moshtix.com.au, Polyester and Greville Records.

  • If you thought My Disco was minimal as a three-piece, Dead Dog – the new project for bassist Liam Andrews and drummer Rohan Rebeiro – strip things back even further. The duo will support Gosteleradio and Houlette when they launch a split 12” at the Northcote Social Club on January 28. The 12” will feature two songs from each band (Gosteleradio's debut single 'Guillotine' and Houlette’s ‘Pine Island' from forthcoming album Bless::Bless) and will only be available on the night of the show. Tickets: $8 at the door.
