New 12” For My Disco

My Disco’s recent dalliances with German minimalism will come to fruition with the release of a new 12” next year.

Out February 6 on Mistletone, the limited-edition 12” will feature an epic new jam called ‘YOUNG’. Described as a “volatile, mindboggling excursion”, the track clocks in at 10 minutes, 50 seconds (that sure is a lot of time to devote to a single note). It’ll be backed by a remix by Qua, which “warps the transmissions of ‘YOUNG’ into sublime rhythmic frequencies”, or something to that effect.

Qua will team up with My Disco to launch the 12" in Sydney and Melbourne in February with special guests New War. Tickets on sale now via Moshtix

who's New War?

oort  said about 2 years ago:

they would need at least a 14'' to get me excited, this band sounds like a duck, seem like nice guys though

mistletone  said about 2 years ago:

Bio says: New War is, as the name implies, a looming Power. Comprised of expatriate Chris Pugmire (of acclaimed cult Seattle/Kill Rock Stars band Shoplifting) and Melbourne luminaries Melissa Lock (also ex-Shoplifting, ex-Remake/Remodel, ex-Bird Blobs), Steve Masterson (ex-Bird Blobs) and Jesse Shepherd (Sir), New War is devoted to its own ideas/sound: shapeshifting, focused, hard. And as the name implies, its ideas/sound are wide-screen, wild-eyed, nauseous.

Tried to go on Saturday but it was already sold out. Most disappointed. Maybe one more show before sneaking off O/S?

How was QUA?

happycow  said about 1 year ago:

New My Disco stuff was amazing. Amped for the new album.

The biggest surprise was being extremely impressed by openers New War. I tried finding some of their stuff, a myspace page, anything online but only came up with a line or so of text mentioning former bands the members had been in (Bird Blobs!). Damn they were fucking great.

anok  said about 1 year ago:

what did they sound like?

happycow  said about 1 year ago:

I'm pretty shit at describing sounds, I'll attempt:

Kind of dark and brutal but also restrained and haunting. Periodically explosive. Drums were loud and pounding with interesting beats. Bass was tastily dirty and repetitive. Synth was utilised in a variety of ways, thankfully not in a typically ''synth sounding'' way though. Vocals reminded me in parts of (strangely) Scott Walker Drift era. Vocals were also sometimes a manic holler. Reminiscent of early Swans in parts.

Visually the band presented an intriguing image. The front man hobbled around with reckless abandon aided by a walking stick/crutch.

that description just gave me a boner happycow... thanks!

If I'm mistaken, New War features ex-members of Shoplifting - missed them the other night though. My Disco were ace!

eucrid_eucrow  said about 1 year ago:

If I'm NOT mistaken.

happycow  said about 1 year ago:

Yeah ex-Shoplifting and Bird Blobs.

Used to be called The Whulge.

Live clip here.

Bootleg MP3 here. There's also a recording of Dead Dog AKA Rohan and Liam on the page.

Not great quality but there's nothing else.

labrish  said about 1 year ago:

I saw a dude recording the set on Sunday. Is anyone here that dude?

happycow  said about 1 year ago:

May have been this person.
