In Brief: Henry Wagons, Rowland S Howard, The Pictures
  • Following Sunday’s Meredith triumph, Henry Wagons will temporarily step out from the “sweaty protective shell of his band” when he performs a rare solo show at The Workers Club in Melbourne on Friday (December 18). Supported by Spunk’s latest signing Emma Russack, Hank will perform some of the more tranquil tunes from Wagons’ The Rise and Fall of Goodtown, which recently topped M+N’s Readers Poll, as well as stripped-back versions of other live favourites. Tickets $12 plus booking fees via www.moshtix.com.au.

  • Due to his ongoing battles with serious illness, Rowland S. Howard has been forced to cancel his performance at The Northcote Social Club on Wednesday (December 16). It’s the second time this month Howard has had to pull out of a gig, following the cancellation of his Homebake appearance in early December. “Rowland has asked that apologies be extended to fans who have already bought or who were intending to come along to the show,” a statement from his label Liberation read. “He hopes to be able to reschedule this performance sometime in the new year.” Refunds are available from the point of purchase.

  • The Pictures (aka Davey Lane and Luke Thomas) will play their first Xmas show at the Curtin Bandroom in Melbourne on December 19. The band were scheduled to perform at the inaugural A Walk In The Park festival, alongside Dallas Crane and The Hoodoo Gurus, but that seems to have mysteriously dropped off the face of the earth. Dubbed their “last for a long while”, the show will feature supports from The Bowers, The Wellingtons and Thomas’ other band Deserters. In other Pictures news, their December 18 show at Club 77 in Sydney will now take place at Live At the Wall (formerly Bald Faced Stag).

new name is terrible. which ain't saying much considering the original.

But it had been called the Stag for ages, right?

CaptainFez  said about 2 years ago:

It's probably just an attempt to differentiate the band side of it from the old-dudes-drinking side of it.

IT HAS A FUCKING STAG ON THE ROOF. YOU CAN'T CHANGE THAT, MOTHERFUCKERS!

The Australian Music Prize should go to Rowland S Howard. He could use the $25, 000 to get a liver transplant.

If only it were that easy.

What a silly namechange. I hadn't heard about this. The Stag is the Stag.
