Rowland S Howard has had to pull out of this weekend’s Homebake festival in Sydney due to ill health, but he remains hopeful of performing in the Harbour City in the new year.
“Rowland S Howard regretfully has to announce that on medical advice received yesterday, he has been forced to cancel his performance at this weekend’s Homebake festival in Sydney,” read a statement from organisers. “Rowland has asked that apologies be extended to fans in Sydney and he hopes to be able to perform in Sydney sometime in the new year.”
Howard recently confirmed his ongoing battles with liver cancer in an interview with New Zealand writer Simon Sweetman: “I contracted liver disease a while back and I've basically got liver cancer, I'm waiting for a transfer, if I don't get it things might not go so well.”
Howard, a former member of The Birthday Party, released his second solo album Pop Crimes through Liberation Music in October.
UPDATE: Dappled Cities have been drafted in as replacements for Howard. They will perform on the Dome Stage at 2pm.

Get well soon, Rowland.

We should have a fundraiser show...
The proceeds go to me- I'll fly over to Thailand and chop one out of a local
On a serious note,
I’ve got one stashed in an esky I was keeping for myself at the foot of Mt Iza.
If they move Underground lovers into his slot, they'll no longer clash with Tumbleweed
I was thinking of seeing Underground Lovers tonight...then I had to work and I'm sick. God hates me for playing the devils music.
oh this sucks in so many ways
:-(
Aw, lame! Was looking forward to it.
fingers crossed for Rowland's health and a speedy deLIVERy
I am hoping he is better for his forthcoming Northcote Social Club concert on the 16th of December.
Fingers crossed. I'd be glad to give him some hepatotonic supplements and extracts from my dispensary if someone can get me in touch with him or someone close to him, should his GP allow it.
Replaced by dappled cities
I heard he was waiting for a transplant a while ago, my dad went was over a few months ago and said he looked really sick.
russiancaravan and I see him in St Kilda a lot (in fact, he may possibly be at something we're attending this arvo). He looks like an old man from behind, shuffling along in that way they do. It's really heartbreaking.
