In Brief: Cloud Control, Snowman, SMACs
  • A “family emergency” has forced Cloud Control to cancel their show at The Troubadour in Brisbane tonight (December 3). The Blue Mountains outfit were set to play two consecutive shows at The Troubadour as part of their “East Coast Smackdown” tour with Adelaide’s Leader Cheetah, but will only be performing on Friday (December 4). Local popsmiths Hungry Kids of Hungary have been drafted in at the 11th hour as a replacement. However, diehard Cloud Control fans can still get a refund from their respective points of purchase until 4pm today.

  • More details have emerged about Snowman’s third album, the follow-up to the M+N Critics Poll-topping The Horse, The Rat and The Swan. According to a recent MySpace missive (via The Vine), it will be recorded by Australian engineer Aaron Cupples (The Drones, Dan Kelly) in the UK, where the band have been based for the past year. “We have twelve pieces of music that we will be attempting to record,” wrote the band. “They vary from one to the next but are held together by a common thread. They are hypnotic, ghostly and a shade more internal than The Horse, the Rat and the Swan. We can’t wait to unveil them to you in 2010.”

  • Organisers of the Sydney Music, Arts and Culture (SMAC) Awards have announced the performers for its gala ceremony at Helm Bar on December 8. Nominees performing include Seekae (nominated for Best Live Music Act and Record of the Year), Canyons (nominated for Next Big Thing - Music) and Jonathan Boulet (nominated for Next Big Thing – Music and Best Sydney Song) with a set by Hoops DJs rounding out the night. The evening will be hosted by performer Dan Ilic (The Ronnie Johns Half Hour, Hungry Beast) and will feature presenters including Kim Moyes (The Presets) and INXS’ Kirk Pengilly. There's too many fucking awards. Nobody knows what the hell they are.

It's stupid. If people like a band, the band will do well anyway. If it's public money, it should be spent on hospitals or the environment, not indie bands.

But if bands aren't put on pedestals, who are we going to hate on after their third album gets played on Triple M?
