Bridezilla have selected the winner of an online competition to make their next video – and it’s none other “magnificently sloppy” Sydney musician Marf Loth.
Loth’s grainy footage of a summer afternoon at Bondi Beach was handpicked by the band as the official clip for their new single ‘Beaches’. It was selected out of dozens of entries via a competition run by website Gerero.tv. Watch it here.
Loth’s sun-soaked vision of skaters, swimmers and seagulls was reportedly chosen for “perfectly” capturing the song’s “yearning and summer escapism”. It was originally written by singer Holiday Carmen-Sparks on a 40-degree day in Adelaide. As for the clip, Loth’s explanation is worthy of the win itself: “Filmed on a mere $100,000 budget this film clip required 2000 extras and over 1000 construction workers who spent six months replicating Bondi Beach inside a studio warehouse. The imitation sun was achieved with 500 powerful spotlights combined together to create one gigantic globe. All skateboarders were injured in the making of this clip. Thank you to all involved.”
In addition to the dubious honour of watching his hard work on Rage at 4am on a Sunday morning, Loth is now a finalist for Gerero.tv’s US$4,000 overall prize.
In other Bridezilla news, the band will belatedly launch their debut album The First Dance in their hometown of Sydney next month. Following an in-store at Hum in Newtown on December 3 and their Homebake bow on December 5, Bridezilla will perform at GoodGod Small Club at La Campana on December 10. The show is likely to be their last for the year, but they’ll be back in January, supporting The Temper Trap in Sydney and The Decemberists on all legs of their upcoming Australian tour.

Ha! Go, Nathan!
Multi-talented little shit.
I'm fast developing a really unhealthy crush on their singer
haha Nathan rulz
when he sent me a CD to play on the radio he asked whether he'd get royalties or hookers.
He and I finished his next album about a month ago but he's counting on winning this $4000 to be able to put it out.
He also tried to beat up some drug dealers the other weekend. He rules.
hmm crafty pretty young things... wholesome?
His next abum is meant to be named after me.
he says that to all the reviewers, Block. Don't let it break your heart
Skateboarding? Those skaters were just beginners. They couldn't do anything!
The clip would have worked a lot better if the beach was isolated and rural. Somewhere natural and bucolic. Bondi Beach is an over-commercialised craphole of annoying backpackers and shmoofter metrosexual posers.
Nice song though.
sucked in kids, you've just been owned by ralph.
No L.
And my name's Timewaster on this forum. 'Owned?'. What the hell does that comment mean anyway?
