Wagons At The Double At EG Awards

On a night when iconic Melbourne outfit Painters and Dockers reformed to play one final show, Wagons threatened to steal the headlines, walking away with two major gongs at Friday’s EG Awards. The band were presented with awards for Best Album and Best Group for their fourth album, The Rise and Fall of Goodtown, at an event at Melbourne’s Prince Bandroom.

Other local winners included Paul Dempsey for Best Male artist (good to see, the SFK voting bloc has lost none of its influence); Kate Miller-Heidke for Best Female act; multiple ARIA Award nominees Temper Trap for Best Song (the Hollywood-endorsed ‘Sweet Disposition’); and Melbourne rapper Diafrix for Best New Artist.

A highlight of the night was a 75-minute “greatest hits* set by Painters and Dockers, who were inducted into the EG “Waldo” Hall of Fame earlier in the night by radio legend Billy Pinnell. There were also performances by The Dacios, Dan Sultan, Henry Wagons and Bertie Blackman.

More than 38,000 online votes were counted for the awards, now in their fourth year.

I'm sure he would have just loved the chance to be in front of a microphone and go on and on...
