Triple J Unveils New Brekkie Crew

With a collective age pushing 100, triple j’s breakfast presenters Robbie Buck, Marieke Hardy and Lindsay McDougall (aka The Doctor) were hardly representative of the “youth” demographic they were supposedly broadcasting to. So it comes as no surprise that their replacements – Tom Ballard and Alex Dyson – are aged 19 and 21, respectively.

The pair, who both hail from Warrnambool, were discovered by triple j’s program director Chris Scadden at the Raw Comedy Final in 2006. They’ve been hosting Weekend Breakfast on triple j for the past year, and will take over the weekday slot from January 11.

“Robbie, Marieke and the Doctor have handballed us the honour of hosting breakfast in 2010, and we couldn't be more flattered and/or nervous,” gushed Ballard and Dyson on the triple j website, pointing to a photo of a child with soiled pants as evidence of said nerves.

The pair have revealed little of their plans for 2010, but have assured triple j listeners that the popular “Like A Version” segment will stay.

The breakfast revamp follows the imminent departure of Robbie Buck, who leaves the station next year for a news slot on ABC 702 Sydney. The fate of Hardy and McDougall will be announced soon.

shineslikerubies  said about 2 years ago:

these guys seem pretty rad on the weekends. not too immature and stupid, and kinda sweet humour (rather than cruel). good luck to them.

blueoystercult  said about 2 years ago:

Nothing wrong with Kingsmill. He's the Ian Meldrum of the 21st Century. Wait...is that a compliment?

Wonsly  said about 2 years ago:

Are these the guys who use to pretend to be young liberals?

I'm looking forward to listening to Peter Russell Clarke's potty mouth during breakfast.

With a collective age pushing 100

But aren't their individual ages pretty much the same (or close to) the ages of the M+N editorial team?

tinyman  said about 2 years ago:

Those Young Liberal guys were quite funny.

they did my head in. i knew the young liberal and the young nationals guys were faking it, but that recurring young religious conservative guest spun my head.

tinyman  said about 2 years ago:

Now they look more like JJJ dudes...

columbo  said about 2 years ago:

they look pretty punchable to me.

so what's the collective age of M&N ers then eh? ehh??

columbo  said about 2 years ago:

..not that i've really given any thought to the previous 'crew', nor the ones before them, etc etc

Hazard_Man  said about 2 years ago:

Quiz hosting and undercover forum membership no doubt

Texaco  said about 2 years ago:

It's interesting that after all these years, JJJ is finally realising that in order to be a youth based network they should have staff under the age of 35. As a jaded 40 year old, I see this as a positive.

Ash-showoff  said about 2 years ago:

I just listened to the Peter Russel Clarke radio interview on JJJ.... SO FUNNY!
The dude rules!

peaches sp  said about 2 years ago:

Peter Russell Clarke did a regular segment on JJJ breakfast over this past year, I think it was some kind of cooking segment... but yes indeed, potty mouth.

Hardy is to join Eddie McGuire on Triple M, along with Rove McManus.

McDougall will take over hosting duties on the 7pm Project and Are You Smarter Than A 5th Grader, as of March next year.

sonian  said about 2 years ago:

No way, Modi. This has to be a joke. Got a link?

sting-bono  said about 2 years ago:

Lindsay McDougall is a really good host. I don't know if Modi is joking but he'd be good on shows like that. Eddie Maguire on Triple M is the biggest piece of shit i've ever heard, it's basically sound clips of eddie slurping on the cocks of his guests.

The Doctor rules!

peaches sp  said about 2 years ago:

the few times I have watched him host JTV, I just wonder, does he wash his hair?

knifetank2  said about 2 years ago:

so will marieke still be doing radio? i guess she has enough other commitments to keep her occupied.

mipearson  said about 2 years ago:

I thought I saw marieke have a smoke outside the Nova studio in Richmond today.

Unfortunately, it was just some other short girl with pigtails wearing a vintage dress.

Dude on the left looks like the offspring of Richard Kingsmill and Michael Tunn

Texaco  said about 2 years ago:

That's the funniest thing Modi's said for a while. Well done that man.

peaches sp  said about 2 years ago:

Dude on the left looks like the offspring of Richard Kingsmill and Michael Tunn

and the dude on the right looks like the offspring of Chris Daymond from Jebediah fame and the singer from End of Fashion...

Modi  said about 2 years ago:

Considering how little of what I say is to be taken seriously, accusations I have had a humourectomy are gravely misleading.

myra_lee  said about 2 years ago:

I wonder if they will continue to be based from Melbourne while they do this or if they will make them move to Sydney. I am betting on the latter.

annehelena  said about 2 years ago:

Lyndsey lives in Sydney already.

annehelena  said about 2 years ago:

Sorry, I went to school with a Lyndsey and it took so much effort to get used to spelling her name right that I do it every time.

Lindsay.

Modi  said about 2 years ago:

I reckon they mean Tom and Alex.

Which would be pretty fucking stupid, I reckon.

JonBonJovial  said about 2 years ago:

Let's hope the new guys don't stoop to such lows as this.

tangy_zizzle  said about 2 years ago:

tsk tsk

Modi  said about 2 years ago:

It's an outrage. The poor newsreader, being mercilessly parodied by having his likeness made into a mask.

gabbo  said about 2 years ago:

A. Who cares who this clown is?

B. That's ''defacement''?

C. What kind of joker at the Daily Telegraph would think that is a story?

D. Whoever this ''Doctor'' guy is, his surgical skills are excellent, and he shouldn't just stick to cutting out eyes. Maybe he should go for a job here - Bundy Dr Job

E. I'm pretty sure we all know who that unnamed woman is. She should come out from hiding and own up to her part in this 'controversy'.
