Melbourne mainstays Mistletone will put parochialism aside when they host their first ever Sydney Xmas party on December 18. Held at the Hellen Rose warehouse space in Surry Hills, the gig will double as the Sydney launch of royalchord’s The Good Fight, an album that we recently put “on rotation”. It’ll also mark the first Australian show for Transformation Surprise, the solo project of Mary Pearson from High Places, on visit from Los Angeles. Proceedings will open with Sydney three-piece Holy Balm. Tickets: $12 via www.mistletone.net/shop … And while we’re in a festive mood, Darren Hanlon is back in the country for his annual bout of Christmas shows. Before he jets back to the US to record album number four, Hanlon will perform in stripped-back mode at Adelaide’s The Grace Emily Hotel on December 16, Melbourne’s Northcote Social Club on December 18, Sydney’s St Stephens Anglican Church (how appropriate) on December 19, Canberra’s Tilly’s Divine Café on December 20 and Brisbane’s The Troubadour on December 21. Supports from Berlin-based Caterina Barbieri aka Missincat, who visits Australia for the very first time … Breaking the run of Xmas-themed news is Oh Mercy, who will join Rough Trade alumni The Veils on their upcoming east-coast Australian tour. The tour kicks off at The Zoo in Brisbane on November 25. It follows the band’s recent dash around the country in support of their debut LP Privileged Woes and will mark their final run of club dates before they hit the summer festival circuit. Dates here.
