So you’re Lees & West. You’ve attained “unprecedented, record breaking sales” by putting together one of the most uninspiring, M.O.R, “seen it all before” Big Day Out bills in history. You’ve erased last year’s disappointment with sold-out events country-wide. Heck, you’ve even added an encore Sydney show for the second time in 18 years.
Round two is time to consolidate, to blood some emerging local talent, to bring over some Pitchfork-endorsed artistes for the hipsters who only go to side shows. Instead, you give us Jet.
The pioneers of 2003’s short-lived, but influential “nu rock” movement are the “big name” act confirmed in the second round of the now completely sold-out (literally and figuratively) event. They will play alongside the likes of Devendra Barnhart, Passion Pit and a bunch of electro acts straight off the plane from Ibiza. As for local acts, Decoder Ring, Wagons and The Middle East are the only other ones of note – and two of those are playing east-coast dates only.
