The rigours of a seemingly non-stop touring schedule have caught up with The Drones as they make their way through Europe. According to reports in the UK press, the band have been forced to cancel their remaining dates in UK and Ireland after guitarist Dan Luscombe was struck down with pneumonia.
Luscombe was reportedly hospitalised after the band’s show at Cargo in London with Aussie expats HTRK. Seven dates in total have now been cancelled including shows in Dublin, Manchester and Glasgow. However, the band’s upcoming performance at All Tomorrow’s Parties 10th Birthday Festival in Minehead on December 11 is still listed on their MySpace page.
In other (cheerier) Drones-related news, ‘Shark Fin Blues’ has been voted “The Greatest Australian Song Ever” by a panel of musicians in the latest issue of jmag.

What, shouldn't it be 'The Nosebleed Section'?
always thought luscombe wouldnt be able to cut it...
Well voted, jmag.
no! my poor luscombe!
Agreed.
Ever? FAAAAAAAAAAARK!
i hope you're joking, blake.
I'm not, fartyfoof.
wow. i'd feel sorry for you but you don't deserve my sympathy.
There are better Drones songs then that, but yeah, it's still good.
I'd vote 'I am the super cargo' as their best.
it's an epic song, but it's not Stranded, it's not Cattle and Cane, it's not US Forces, or even fuckin' Flame Trees.
and it's certainly not Night Prowler or How Much Is Enough.
thank you, nicko.
thank you, Fat Yngwie, you mean.
i probably like this song better too but shark fin blues has that really kinda classic sound about it. i can see why it would be picked for something as dumb as greatest australian song ever
ah, there were at least six songs in the Underground Lovers set on Monday that beat it.
best wishes, what about the Blackeyed Susans gigs?
lay off the piss and fags luscombe
This headline makes it sound like Luscombe's hospitalisation was caused by the cancelled gigs.
Hope he gets better soon. Poor guy.
Agreed.
Nice, it was in my top 5, never thought it would get # 1 though
ahhh shit
''Well voted, jmag.
Agreed.''
was meant to be part of a quote
Perhaps it's time for a comeback by their first guitarist, Rui. I liked him a lot.
greatest australian song ever... my pal.
no doubt.
oh, & luscombe ain't played with blackeyed susans for ages.
Me too.
He is MIA. It was only a wink and a nod but I haven't seen him around for a bit. Which is not unusual someone tells me. Pops up and down.
don't the jmag people know about Hoodoo Gurus?
Rui is around... You can see him play guitar with the Suzie Stapleton Band on the 15th of November at the Tote or The Selfish Gene for a real treat....
they were a better band as a three piece anyway...
