And now a story that truly warms the heart. In true community spirit, more than 20 acts will band together for “Totes Deaf”, a fundraiser for a new rehearsal/studio space in Melbourne. Scheduled to open in January, On/Off Studio is an initiative of local musicians Kobi Simpson, Jade McInally and Sarah Phelan. The trio have recently taken over the lease at a Collingwood shop front and plan to convert it into a “creative hub for local artists and bands”. To help their cause, 21 bands including Outrun, Bachelor Of Arts, The Emergency, Rat Vs Possum, Gold Tango, Dick Diver, Psuche, Love Connection, East Brunswick All Girls Choir and Milk Teddy will perform at The Tote on November 1. Tickets: $13 including a free barbecue and compilation CD for the first 100 people through the door. More information here … Long-running Melbourne blog Last Tram Home (run by esteemed M+N contributor Trevor Block) will host its first gig at The Old Bar on Cup Eve (November 2). The eclectic line-up includes Late Arvo Sons (pictured), Crystal Thomas and the Flowers Of Evil and noisemongering two-piece Aktion Unit, with Block spinning a heap of old (mostly) Australian vinyl until late. Cost: $8.
