The honours continue to roll in for The Drones’ Havilah. Mere weeks after receiving three ARIA nominations, the album has been nominated for a Jagermeister AIR Award for Best Independent Album. It’s up against Bertie Blackman’s Secrets and Lies, C.W. Stoneking’s Jungle Blues, Dappled Cities’ Zounds and Decoder Ring’s They Blind The Stars, And The Wild Team, which categorically does not have a unicorn on its cover.
The Drones have also been nominated for Independent Artist Of The Year, along with Bertie Blackman, C.W. Stoneking, Dappled Cities (are you seeing a pattern here?) and part-time Aussie Sia. Other nominees include Philadelphia Grand Jury (Best Independent Single for ‘Going To The Casino’), Architecture In Helsinki (Best Independent Single for ‘That Beep’) and The Nation Blue (Best Independent Hard Rock/Punk Album for Rising Waters). Full list of nominees here.
Hosted by The Chaser’s Julian Morrow, the awards will be presented at the Forum Theatre in Melbourne on November 22.

go decoder ring!
Oh, is it that time of year again?
That time when I get loaded on Jager, I mean.
Make sure you don't travel there in an open-top car, Block. It's that time of the year, too.
such a good lookin bunch the ol droners
all other bands are epic. drones are ethereal. their albums are for the ages, i hope they win. zounds probably will though.... it's a hard road playing rock'n'roll these days (as opposed to electronica-inflected-melodic-indie-pop which is so much more, well, p4k)...
shit, I'm kranky tonight.
Awesome.
The Philly Js had to put up with some sound problems, which were fixed by the end of their short (three song) set.
I was on the money with 4 out of 4 calls- Adam Brand, CW Stoneking, Nation Blue, Drones. Sadly, all this got me was four more Jager shots from Danny.
Highlight of the night was when people kept mistaking josejones for host Julian Morrow. He was too busy staring at Loene Carmen to notice, though.
