Laneway Festival First Announcement

St Jerome’s Laneway Festival organisers have atoned for last year’s Melbourne debacle – and then some. Melbourne punters not only get a new site, but The Dirty Three in their only festival appearance of the summer.

Other local acts in round one include Sarah Blasko, Eddy Current Suppression Ring, Dappled Cities, Whitley, The Middle East and Kid Sam. As for internationals there’s Echo & The Bunnymen, Florence and The Machine, Black Lips, The XX, Daniel Johnston (excluding Adelaide), NASA, Hockey, Mumford and Sons (excluding Adelaide, Auckland), Radio Clit, The Very Best and Wild Beasts (excluding Adelaide, Auckland).

Following the Melbourne leg's shift to Footscray, Sydney’s Laneway will move from Circular Quay to the Sydney College of the Arts in Rozelle. The new site is surrounded by parklands and is accessible by light rail, bus and a “short cab ride” from the CBD. The festival will also make its New Zealand bow at Auckland’s Britomart Square in February. The site is “two steps” from Britomart Station, Auckland’s largest transportation hub. Meanwhile, it’s business as usual for Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth.

Tickets on sale on October 30, 9am. For more information visit www.lanewayfestival.com.au.

The 3Ds are apparently playing the Auckland one. If they don't do any Australian shows, I may just have to go see them there.

anonymous  said about 2 years ago:

wonder what happened to the singapore leg that's in a bunch of annonucements and mentioned fleetingly on the website.

al  said about 2 years ago:

hmm.. rozelle.. i give it about 5 minutes before my local community is up in arms about the disturbance to the peace.. despite the fact they love living in an 'artistic' 'vibrant' community..

noise restrictions will probably be even worse than the cbd, despite the distance to any houses..

and dog walkers will get free entry, and right of way through the crowd, regardless of what's going on..

montyclift  said about 2 years ago:

as above, echo and the fucken bunnymen!

in the grounds of a former mental hospital. perfect.

but al, you're right. i used to live across the road in lilyfield and the local 'community' will be getting the petition together even now...

timewaster  said about 2 years ago:

Put HEALTH on the bill. I heard they were gonna do it.

Echo and the Bunnymen are great, but a weird choice. How many Triple J kids would be at all familiar with the band? And those are the kids buying tickets to a festival like this...

Hazard_Man  said about 2 years ago:

I suspect it will be within the confines of the buildings and quadrangles, so excess noise will be limited, and no problems with dog walkers.

blake3030  said about 2 years ago:

From what I saw on the 'video tour' on FasterLouder, it will be taking place in the greener areas. Didn't look like it was confined to the buildings and quadrangles.

tugboat  said about 2 years ago:

Easy access of drugs for the bands?

FrankieTeardrop  said about 2 years ago:

Daniel Fucking Johnston!!! Awesome!

And yes.... 3Ds and The Clean for Melbourne, PLEEEEEEASE!!!!!

timmydodgers  said about 2 years ago:

shitomart more like it - wackity schmakity doo....

philcollinsbutseriously, DIRTY THREE. AUCKLAND. My god it's the first time I've wanted to travel north in ages.... and the chance to see ECSR live - they better play Auckland!

Echo, meh, one album and nostalgia to me. But that's just me. Kililng Moon is great don't get me wrong but maybe I should jump into the bands I don't understand the appeal thread...

timmydodgers  said about 2 years ago:

oh yer, props for the 3Ds and Clean. Aotearoa represent.... Flying Nun is obviously officially back BIG TIME and not just on trade me's vinyl section...

how many triple j 'kids' are there?

anyone who's seen donnie darko is at least somewhat familiar with them.
