New Releases: Bum Creek, Once Overs, Drawn From Bees

Canberra transplants Bum Creek (pictured) have a new CD out. Released to coincide with their appearance at Newcastle’s Sound Summit festival earlier this month, the self-titled disc is a precursor to the band’s debut full-length album, due out on Chapter Music in early 2010. Limited to 100 copies, the disc reportedly mines “slightly different territory” to the band’s wildly experimental live show which we described as “composer Angelo Badalamenti and 1970s prog rockers Lucifer Was munching on LSD”. Here’s hoping it’s a far cry from their MySpace page, which looks “like Vice magazine threw up all over it”. Cost: $10 via Chapter's website … Garage outfit The Once Overs will launch their debut self-titled EP on October 23 at Cherry Bar in their hometown of Melbourne. The EP was recorded at A Secret Location Sound Recorders in East Brunswick by Paul Maybury (Rocket Science, The Bowerbirds). Supports by The Jacknives, Johnnie and The Johnnie Johnnies … Brisbane outfit Drawn from Bees will live up to their art-rock reputation (and then some) when they launch their third studio recording, The Sky Is Falling , this Friday (October 16) at a masquerade ball at The Troubadour. The band will perform cuts from the EP, as well as old favourites including ‘Picture Show’ and ‘Long Tooth Setting Sun’, while sporting specially designed masks, tailored velvet suits and vintage cufflinks. The launch kicks off a mini-tour, which will include an appearance at Valley Fiesta and a quick dash to Sydney. For full dates click here.
