Big Day Out Adds Sydney Show

Reverting to status quo has paid off in spades for organisers of next year’s Big Day Out.

After tickets to the Sydney leg of the event – January 22 at the Showgrounds – sold out within minutes this morning, promoters have decided to add a second show the following day. Yes, that’s right, the same uninspiring line-up we moaned about the first time will perform at Sydney Showgrounds on January 23. It’s only the second time in the festival’s 18-year history that two Big Day Outs have run in one city. In addition, the January 23 event will mark the 100th Big Day Out ever staged.

This morning’s sell-out was not without controversy, however. According to reports in today’s Sydney Morning Herald, a technical glitch by Ticketmaster meant that tickets were available as early as 9pm last night; a full 12 hours before they were set to go on sale this morning. The Big Day Out website was also having issues with its “Buy Tickets” button. Perhaps they were inadvertently protecting us from having to sit through Muse?

Barring any “internal errors”, tickets for the second Sydney event will go on sale on October 12. Visit www.bigdayout.com for a full line-up and ticketing details.

One day it will sell out without a single person seeing a single band. People love queues.

It might be shit, but on the day 60,000 people are running around in the sun listening to music and drinking beer, the rest of us will be spending ANOTHER DAY sitting in an office in front of a computer, or something similar.

In 80 years time when we're all dead, who will have spent the day of this music festival in the better manner?

Me, 'cause I won't have had my cunt-avoidance stress level raised to intolerable levels. And I'll be able to drink cheaper beers.

I'd like to watch Muse, but I can't stand cunce and sunburn.

you need stilts or a giant inflated bubble to rise over the crowds. are there rules against floating over the mosh pit with a helium balloon?
