Ahead of a two album launches this month, Rowland S Howard will play a “warm-up” show at the Newtown Workers Club in Melbourne this Sunday (October 4). Ably backed by Brian Hooper, JP Shilo and Mick Harvey, Howard will showcase songs from his forthcoming second album Pop Crimes (out October 16 on Liberation Music). Supports by St Helens and likeminded guitar slinger Kirin J Callinan (Mercy Arms). Cost: $10 on the door … With tickets to their upcoming album launch selling fast, Crayon Fields (pictured) have added a second Melbourne show to their run of dates in October/November. The band will perform at Bella Union at Trades Hall on October 24 with Robin Fox Laser Show and Minimum Chips. Also, with the sudden closure of the Hopetoun Hotel, Crayon Fields have rescheduled their Sydney launch to November 6 at Spectrum. Supports (The Twerps and Bearhug) remain the same. Full tour dates here … Melbourne gospel rock act the Slaughtermen will reform for a one-off show at the Oakleigh Bowls Club on October 2. Renowned in their day for the passionate delivery of frontman Ian Stephen, and featuring Mark Ferrie of the Rockwiz Orchestra, the band issued their debut single ‘God's Not Dead’ on Au Go Go back in 1986. Tickets: $20 on the door.
