Festivals In Brief: Big Day Out, Pyramid Rock

Following January’s uncharacteristically awesome, but poor-selling Big Day Out, organisers have resorted to status quo for next year’s event. Local acts confirmed include Powderfinger, Eskimo Joe, Grinspoon, Karnivool, The Temper Trap, Midnight Juggernauts, Magic Dirt, Lisa Mitchell, Kisschasy, Tame Impala and Bluejuice. They will join the inexplicably popular Muse (aka iRadiohead 2.0), The Mars Volta, Mastodon, The Horrors, Peaches, Kasabian, The Decemberists (in their first Australian tour, about five years too late), Dizzee Rascal and Lily Allen, who has made a swift comeback after quitting the music biz last week. Dates and full line-up here … A slew of local acts have been added to the Pyramid Rock Festival, which takes place in Victoria’s Phillip island over New Year’s. Joining Cat Power (featuring The Dirty Three’s Jim White on drums) and Scottish rockers Biffy Clyro in round two are Grinspoon, British India, Clare Bowditch, Funkoars, Canyons, Red Riders, Dallas Frasca, Sugar Army, Diafrix, Tom Ugly and new Melbourne outfits The Melodics and The Smoke. Three-day passes are sold out, but there are limited two-day tickets still available. Full line-up and tickets available here.

You are comparing Muse to Radiohead? That's a compliment that Matt Bellamy does not deserve.

Muse are a cross between Queen and a bucket of wank.

It was more comparison to the new vegemite, which is like a cross between toothpaste and bovril.

I assume they mean this years (2009), which was actually pretty shit too, but amazing compared to the 2010 lineup.

Yeah, at least Queen had their own bucket of wank!
