Custard To Reform For Brisbane Show

Custard will reform for one show only in their hometown of Brisbane in December.

The Dave McCormack-helmed outfit, who split in 1999, have been invited to perform at a Q150 Proclamation Day concert at the City Botanic Gardens on December 10. The event, which celebrates 150 years since Queensland was declared a separate colony to NSW, has been curated by Powderfinger, who convinced Custard’s “most popular” incarnation to reform for the show. Other acts performing include local up-and-comers The Cairos, The Middle East and Yves Klein Blue.

Formed in 1990, Custard produced five albums, two EPs, various singles, two compilations of rarities and unreleased material and a posthumous greatest hits compilation during their stellar 10-year career. They released their final album, the Magoo-produced Loverama, in 1999.

Tickets on sale October 12, 9am, via qtix.com.au.

I never understood the fuss about this band. Just sayin'. I'm sure they are much beloved by all and sundry.

filterfeed  said about 11 months ago:

hmmm. i loved custard up until wahooti fandango but then that drummer in the picture joined and i couldn't stand them anymore.

good story huh? yep. i'd go to this i reckon

filterfeed  said about 11 months ago:

not if powderfinger are playing but.

Fielding Mellish  said about 11 months ago:

And Weisenheimer. That album is rad.

filterfeed  said about 11 months ago:

not as much as wahooti fandango, though. or the eps.

Woollen Kits  said about 11 months ago:

Fucking woah! DAMNIT.
DO WANT.

Fielding Mellish  said about 11 months ago:

No. It's at least equal.

I dont have anything after Weisenheimer though, so I guess I cant really comment about that stuff. How many EPs are there?

filterfeed  said about 11 months ago:

gastanked and brisbane are the eps i'm referring to.

don't say no like that, you're not the authority! especially with your 'don't tell a soul' appreciation. pfft.

Fielding Mellish  said about 11 months ago:

I think I have brisbane. I think I have a 45 too. It's Purple and yellow.

D'ont Tell A Soul Rules!!!! RULES!!!!!!!!

Although, Let It Be does have a Kiss cover.

filterfeed  said about 11 months ago:

so are you saying that don't tell a soul is > let it be? that's fucked.

sorry, end threadjack.

Fielding Mellish  said about 11 months ago:

No. Let It Be was saved by the Kiss Song. Written by another Rad Paul!

I think I like them equally though. Don't Tell A Soul has some really great songs on it. It's the one I listen to the most. Then Tim, Then Let It Be, Then Pleased To meet Me.

Then again, I like the Westerberg album that's meant to be crap too.

I also like that Custard Song Casanova. Which EP is that on? I have that one.

mongoloid_dave  said about 11 months ago:

It's on a single called Casanova. It came out a bit before Wahooti.

And filterfield, the drummer in the pic (Glenn Thompson) didn't join until We Have the Technology.

Wonsly  said about 11 months ago:

Glenn Thompson sung their best song!

timewaster  said about 11 months ago:

Great band. But do a new album. Don't make this a lame reunion like Ratcat.

timewaster  said about 11 months ago:

Other acts curated by Powderfinger:

Bernard Fanning and Kinesis, the British band they kicked off their UK tour about five years ago.

filterfeed  said about 11 months ago:

i know, mongoloid_dave. still don't care for much post-wahooti.

katiepotatie  said about 11 months ago:

what about bedford? can anyone link that on gmail?

bigdaddykane  said about 11 months ago:

Come to Melbs, Custaro.

Hazard_Man  said about 11 months ago:

Blah blah blah... ok sooks, enough.

A fantastic band that should have done this MUCH sooner than now. Will prob make the trip from Sydney to see this show. Thankyou Powderfinger for making yourselves useful.

____  said about 11 months ago:

haha! I made a joke when I heard about Pavement reforming saying it won't be long before Custard copy that too...

untold/animals  said about 11 months ago:

Haha. I laugh, I laugh! I liked Custard a lot when I was a little human.

soula  said about 11 months ago:

nice. i guess david has been playing custard songs the last couple of times he's played in melbourne, though that's a couple of years ago now.

it was going to appen, just when.

so assume glen is in the line up?

mongoloid_dave  said about 10 months ago:

tickets went on sale today

Coz  said about 10 months ago:

We seriously looked at the possibility of going, but being so close to Meredith, it just wasn't feasible :(

ffarff, esq  said about 10 months ago:

Im glad Paul Medew has a gig.

Glenn Thompsons band Beachfield [which is just him anyway] is good too.

Kez  said about 9 months ago:

Would it be academic to speculate that the Danny-drum line-up was by ratio as popular as the Glenn lineup? I'm sure there's maths to make that equasion work...

thenewmeatloaf  said about 9 months ago:

Didn't Dave have some of the Custaros play Custard tunes with him at Pig City a few years back? I must confess, I was listening to it from outside the marquee, but it sounded fine...

hillsonghoods  said about 9 months ago:

Kez: if you take where they came in the JJJ Hottest 100 as an index of popularity, ''Girls Like That'' was 3, ''Apartment'' was 7, ''Music Is Crap'' was 24, ''I Feel Like Ringo'' was 47, ''Anatomically Correct'' was 48, and ''Hit Song'' was 83. That would suggest to me that the Glenn lineup was the most popular (Glenn really is a fantastic drummer).
