Magic Dirt’s Road Trip For Turner

Magic Dirt will embark on a national tour in October in tribute to bass player Dean Turner, who died last month after a long battle with cancer. The band had planned to tour in August but cancelled due to Turner’s deteriorating condition.
They will play five shows across Victoria and one in Adelaide next month to give Turner the “rousing and rowdy send-off he so richly deserves”. Matt Sonic from Sons of the Sun – a close friend of Turner and the band – will fill in on bass.
"Dean loved playing live. He liked to play loud and hard and give it all he had – 110 percent all the way. We are so proud of Dean’s legacy and the gifts he has left with us,” a statement from the band read.
The tour will mark the release of the White Boy EP, one of Turner’s final projects. It includes ‘White Boy’ from the band’s latest LP Girl, as well as two Turner-produced duets: ‘Summer High’ (Adalita and Rowland S Howard) and ‘Love Is The Armour’ (Adalita and Gareth Liddiard from The Drones). The EP also features two previously unreleased songs, ‘Deep In A Net Of Red’ and ‘Valley Of The Rose’, plus ‘Future Fuck’ from a now deleted 2008 tour EP.
At the insistence of Turner, a DVD of recent videos for ‘White Boy’, ‘Romy’ and ‘Bring Me The Head Of...’ will be given away to 100 fans at each show.
“Dean felt it was vital to include our audience as part of the whole creative process and it was important for him to give something back to the fans,” the band said. “We wish to honour his hard working spirit with these shows, to unite with our audience that has so deeply shown their respect, appreciation and love for Dean and his music."
