More than 60 bands will descend on Brisbane next week for Big Sound, a music industry conference that offers local artists and industry types a chance to ask the big questions such as, “How do I get a song on triple j if I’m not a member of the Hilltop Hoods?” or, “What ‘tricks’ should I use to sell my music online?”
Run over three days (September 9-11), the event will feature a host of panel discussions, lectures and masterclasses for delegates willing to fork out $550 for a conference pass. For the rest of us, there’s a two-day pass that offers access to the six nightly showcases (around 30 bands all up, each night) at venues including The Troubadour and the Alhambra Lounge for $44. Individual night tickets are $27.50.
Acts performing include The Middle East, Bob Evans, Bertie Blackman, Philadelphia Grand Jury (pictured), Washington, The Basics, Hungry Kids of Hungary, Belles Will Ring, The Boat People, The Devoted Few, Old Man River, Rocketsmiths, DZ, I Heart Hiroshima, Cloud Control, Charles Jenkins and Oh Mercy.
