Grand Salvo’s performance at The Arts Centre’s Fairfax Studios in his hometown of Melbourne on Saturday (August 15) will be his last in Australia for the foreseeable future. Two days later, he will be jetting off with his girlfriend to Berlin.
“I'm traveling for an adventure and a change, not with any dissatisfaction with life in general or my music as it exists in Australia,” Grand Salvo (aka Paddy Mann) told M+N. “I still have a romantic image of the traveling minstrel roaming Europe and sleeping under 200-year-old-oak trees, or sharing a barn with a sullen donkey.
“Melbourne is a very easy city to live in for a musician and as such very hard to leave, but its time to extricate myself from the nurturing teet and set out for a wander.”
The lengthy of Mann’s stay is dependant on a number of factors, least of all a working visa which the pair haven’t secured. “We are unsure as to how we'll earn money or be able to stay for any extended length of time,” he explains. “Also, at this stage I only have one show lined up so its a bit of a blind jump into a dark hole (this being part of the appeal). It may be a short trip if none of these problems are solved before our money runs out.”
Grand Salvo's fifth album, Soil Creatures, was released last month through Preservation.
