Thought you heard the last of the Mercy Arms Bold and the Beautiful-esque saga? Think again.
Despite overtures by guitarist Kirin J Callinan that the band weren’t imploding just yet, singer Thom Moore has now officially left the band. Moore will make his live debut with new outfit Canvas Kites at the Oxford Art Factory on August 13. Citing Orange Juice, Roddy Frame and Cass McCombs as influences, the band will release their debut EP Wayside (produced by Evan McHugh at Sydney's Big Jesus Burger studios) over the next few weeks. A debut full-length is also in the works.
As for Mercy Arms, it’s anyone’s guess. But, as Callinan told M+N back in April, Moore hadn’t really been part of the picture since the band’s last show (as a quartet at least) at the Big Day Out. “Ash, Julian and myself have all been making music together and collaborating on various other projects,” he explained.

It's not Canvas Kites' first show. They've been playing around. Anyway, good luck. I have a soft spot for Thom, despite all the vitriol.
so the long and short of this.... has the lead singer quit and started his own band, but the rest of the guys are kicking on without him?
Nah, the other guys are in other bands. Ash has joined Faker and is currently supporting Pink on a 500 date stadium tour. Julian and Kirin play in Fashion Launches Rocket Launches. Kirin is also playing with that beanpole Jack Ladder.
Mercy Arms have a singer? I couldn't tell over all that glorious reverb drenched over-powering guitar geniusness.

Kirin was selling cds of his stuff about a year ago. i dont know if he's doing that now, or waiting until he has a new batch of stuff to unleash.

Kites EP is fucken tops from what I heard. Dig on it muchly more than Mercy Arms.
